Maybe it says the people on this sub want to hold their elected officials accountable.

It’s also kinda the most Jersey City profile pic ever, like noone else would do this. I’ve come to embrace it.

I had an asswipe neighbor who'd always park his fucking truck and wreck branches on my tree. Maybe I should do something like the following: my parents had a tree where people would always reach up and break off branches so I got some gloppy stuff called "Tanglefoot" (to keep bugs off fruit trees) and coated the lower branches with it. So when the smacked-asses grabbed a branch they'd get this sticky-as-hell-non-water-soluable shit on their hands. The best part is that you could say "It must be sap from the tree." Yep, it stopped the morons breaking branches!

To expand a little on what others have said:

It's a measure of the "official" economic activity in the country. As phiwong said, it doesn't do a very good job of representing illegal/black activity; in addition, it doesn't measure lots of human activity that has economic value but isn't transactional in a way that governments can track.

Childcare is a common example. The work of your kid's daycare counts towards GDP - it's one of the "services" in "goods and services." But when you pick your kid up and take them home, the childcare you perform is not counted. Childcare has measurable economic value, since people are willing to pay for it. But not all of that value is calculated as part of GDP. Only the part that involves one person paying another is. (And even then, it's only counted if the payment is reported to the government somehow - when you pay your friend's daughter to babysit, that probably isn't going into the GDP numbers either)

Is it important? By itself it can be kinda useful as a means to compare two countries. Having a higher GDP is generally desirable. It's also important to look at GDP per capita - the total GDP split among all the people in a country. This gives you a better sense of wealth. If you just look at GDP, Luxembourg ranks #72 - a couple of spots below Guatemala. This might lead you to believe that Guatemala is wealthier than Luxembourg. It isn't. Guatemala's GDP is higher, but there are a lot more Guatemalans than Luxembourgers, so that GDP gets spread a lot thinner. Luxembourg ranks #1 in GDP per capita and is considered extremely wealthy; Guatemala ranks #109 and is considered one of the poorer countries in the Western Hemisphere.

More like never.

Hear me out; We are not getting any better in regards to battery technology, we are stuck and based on my experience in chemistry we are permanently stuck.

Science fiction gives people the idea of "fuel cells" and other tiny power sources that somehow break the laws of physics and have insane amounts of power in a tiny package. We haven't really closed the gap between a bomb and a power source that can use similar chemistry to release necessary energy and even if we did, it wouldn't actually be much, you see if you distill a hand grenades energy it's actually not that much better than a freaking battery of similar size!

So let's get to the point: Humanoid robots won't be able to carry significant shit for decades or maybe ever, BD ones can only carry around 10 KILOS that's like 22 lbs.

Manual labour will be needed and the only way I see it not been needed is when an AGI designs a some sort of biological automaton out of nightmares

Isn’t that really more true for fresh water (I agree w you on that front). Lower mystic where op is referring to is tidal waters and the fisherman are going for stripers and bluefish which are migrating up and down east coast not hanging around in the river all year.

i mean.... I guess my next question would be, has their language evolved enough that they can share memes? haha

complex language is more than just "avoid this area", "food here". that could be done without language as well. ,do we even know if the most intelligent animals, the most linguistic animals, are sharing complex ideas through language?
