Time, as we track it, is our own invention. We get to say what time it is somewhere. Is the time different place to place when we compare where we are to the sun and moon? Yes. But we set the time zones, which we do hour to hour, so differences of minutes don't make a difference.

If tipping isn't the expectation, then just do not tip. Follow the norms of wherever you live.

Don't worry so much if this one waitress was offended, she was probably just caught off guard. Relax, let it go - you didn't do anything malicious or with bad intent, so all is good.

I live in the North Cascades. Its grey most of the winter. Seattle actually has more sun. East of the mountains may be sunny, but its cold, really cold and its snows. If you want consistent sun in winter on the west coast, it can be found in California or Arizona. That is why people leave here in the winter for places like Florida or the above mentioned. The PNW is grey, not all grey all the time, but to a person from Florida it will seem all grey through the winter.

The physical construction will be by a variety of suppliers, everything from basic excavation and concrete to very fancy optics. It won't be just one company. It also won't start for years, as they haven't even settled where to build it. In the mean time you can work on other telescopes currently under construction.

That would be the 3rd genocide against Armenians if they do it. People talk about the Armenian genocide of 1915-1923, that resulted in 1.5 million deaths, but no one ever mentions the Hamidian massacres just 20 years prior, that resulted in up to 300,000 Armenian casualties. It was named after Ottoman sultan Hamid II, who wanted to further islamize the empire. About 25000 Assyrians were also killed.

There definitely seems to be a habit developing in the region, a habit of genociding Armenians.

Edit: I just found this list actually, seems there are even more, and generally caused by anti-christian sentiment.
