But do this with a bank that has notifications when the card gets swiped so that neither of you has the ability to spend without the other's knowledge.
Above all else, talk about the household finances once a month minimum. That alone will eliminate 90% of potential financial troubles. And if you can do it successfully, you'll be way ahead of the game once you do tie the knot.

Reminds me of the running joke from Archer. He always has a different voicemail message that trolls whoever calls him.

Reply to comment by ilovemybrownies in What is known about pain enhancement? For instance, are there drugs that are the opposite of analgesics? If so, what are they and how do they work with neurons/neurotransmitters? by DollyPartWithOn
Well we already know of things that "heighten" pain in more mundane contexts like putting salt or antiseptic cream on a wound, but I don't know if the process is related/similar.

Reply to comment by zeusamoose in I want to vote on Greene County issues. Anyone know if this is possible? (More context below.) by kellsybellsy
Thank you for the link! I couldn’t get details on the site but called Jeff City. I have more questions than answers now. My polling place potentially has both Greene and Webster ballots and I’ve been getting Webster by default. I’ll have to sort it out next election and contact Greene County if a Greene County ballot isn’t available at my polling place.

Reply to ELI5: The seemingly huge increase in Ticketmaster fee's and why there aren't competitors trying to cash in on the public backlash by undercutting them? by FIuff
Ticketmaster is part of LiveNation. LiveNation has exclusive deals with almost all of the large venues (stadiums etc.) saying "all shows here must sell tickets via ticketmaster", and deals with many of the artists themselves saying "tickets to my shows anywhere will be sold via ticketmaster".
So any potential competitor trying to undercut them would have to sign new artists and not have them perform in any of the established big venues. They have a functional monopoly, it's literally impossible for a competitor to sell tickets to a concert at a given stadium or for a given artist for cheaper, because TicketMaster/LiveNation have contracts that make it illegal.
That's the problem, they can charge whatever they want because they have a monopoly where it's impossible for someone to undercut on the same product, because they're the only ones that are allowed to offer that product.

Reply to AI, democracy and unemployment by [deleted]
You bring up valid concerns, but I believe we can do more than simply banning AI for non-researchers and the military. We need to generate numerous ideas to address these issues, discuss them, and promote the best solutions using all available resources.
- Addressing unemployment:
We could consider grading AI systems based on approved tests. Basic systems should be accessible to everyone, while more advanced systems should serve as assistants to intellectual workers such as programmers, writers, and scientists, rather than replacing them. If a company replaces an employee with AI, they should contribute additional taxes to a Universal Basic Income (UBI) fund. People do not need money for sake of money. They need food, clothing, shelter, healthcare, and entertainment. AI could make these essentials much more affordable and accessible. Governments should support citizens during the transitional period, just as they did during the pandemic. This transition will be gradual, allowing for improved efficiency, lower prices, and increased production of goods and services. If necessary, people could receive support in the form of vouchers for essential items. - Combatting intellectual atrophy:
A similar situation arose when people transitioned from physical jobs to office work, leading to the rise of gyms. As parents are legally responsible for their children go to school, we need to create mental exercises, potentially making them mandatory. AI could help tailor these exercises to individuals, making them efficient and virtually cost-free. These activities could take the form of engaging games. One form of motivation could be government assistance linked to individuals regularly participating in such exercises or passing intellectual tests, provided they already have intellectual jobs or hobbies. - The impact on democracy:
Large-scale AI has the potential to integrate people's opinions on various levels (local/state/federal/world) more effectively than politicians. Many government positions could be replaced by AI, which would not be susceptible to bribery. Remaining roles would be monitored by AI, allowing any person to access clear and easy-to-understand explanations of a politician's positive or negative actions. This presents an opportunity for positive changes in democracy.

If you don't immediately subsidize the finances of your boyfriend or girlfriend upon moving in together, even if you pick a spot that is affordable to the lower earner, you are abusive.
Peak Reddit relationship advice.

Reply to comment by jrhoffa in Cap on insulin cost now permanent in Washington by aagusgus
Well, that’s not even remotely true. And especially in the case of insulin. If the government only allows one producer of insulin via patent protection then that is pretty obviously not free markets at work finding a true price
