It's funny you mention it. I've never cared for altering the base composition when I'm working from reference. I find much more joy in playing with composition when I'm just freestyle sketching, whilest I love developing my style when working from reference. But I've now come to a point where the shapes themselves start to feel like a final fronteir to play in with these paintings.

Sure you can. Though, you must look for waterproof ink if you don't want the ink to bleed after the contact with water.
