Not just because trans women are women, but because from the way you phrase it, it sounds like I wouldn't have been able to tell she was trans until she mentioned it, so she might as well just not mention that she's trans since obviously it doesn't matter.

Venting and talking to someone

To my understanding they usually do, at bare minimum as a matter of safety. Some people get violent about any event that makes them question their own sexuality.
