I hope I am mot out of place posting this here. I have been carrying the Dime daily for close to 10ish years. I literally bought it at 15 or 16. It has been through a lot. Eventually one the spring that locks the pliers into place snapped completely in half. It took a couple months through the email process but Gerber sent me a brand new one. I really do appreciate them doing this. Nalgene and Gerber are now two companies that I can mark down as having excellent warranty service. Thank you again Gerber.

Grew up farming and myself, uncle, and grandfather all had multiple Leathermans sent in for repair (and returned fully cleaned and sharpened) or outright replaced over the years.

I prefer Leatherman personally but I also know that Gerber was the one with the military contract when my unit went to Afghanistan. It was a solid tool but there's just something about Leatherman for me. Probably nostalgia n whatnot but still.

I have owned tons of other Gerber products tho

Can confirm Gerber is an AMAZING brand, has a knife of theirs that was maybe 2 inches, tiny little thing, but outlived every single one of my knives, but sadly it was stolen.. sharp as heck through constant use through 3 years and I never had to sharpen it once

I have one like that also. I like it because it’s so light and don’t even know it’s in my pocket.My Gerber holds an edge pretty good too. And I use it just about every day for something.

I have a Gerber multi-tool that I got from my grandma 20 years ago. Several years back, the serated blade snapped in half. Did you need a proof of purchase? How did you submit a warranty claim? I want my particular tool because of the sentimental value, how did you get to keep yours? My tool isn’t made anymore, at least in the exact same configuration.

Nope. My 10-year-old suspension broke a few months back. I emailed their warranty department through the website with a photo of the suspension attached and received a brand new replacement 2 months later, no questions asked.

They’ve replaced 2 for me, not simply fix (or replace a gadget) they replaced the entire thing. Got mine 22 years ago

I love my suspension but I recently bought a higher end Gerber and I absolutely hate it. They started selling multi tools with replaceable wire cutter inserts. The problem is that the inserts are just indexable carbide machining inserts, designed to scrape in the forward direction through metal, not designed to shear laterally. They crush pretty easily under the force and then you need to buy more at $20 per pair. Gerber has been aware of the problem for years but they're ignoring the issue due to the number of customers that never actually use wire cutters.

Sintered carbide is the wrong material but they advertise it as the perfect wire cutter because the inserts are multi sided and can be rotated when one side gets dull. That assumes they haven't shattered of course, and I haven't had such luck. Leatherman also has replaceable wire cutters on their higher end models, but instead of sintered carbide they are made of 154CM high carbon knife steel, which is the right material for the job. They last a really long time and are only $10 to replace.

That said though, I do still love my Gerber suspension. I'm just not buying anything else from Gerber until they own up and fix this engineering issue.

This may be stupid, but is it not possible to replace the broken component? It seems kind of wasteful to simply toss the entire gerber because a single part.

I loved my MP600 for about 15 years before it broke during 2020. I tried to use their warranty program but they said it was suspended because COVID. I get it. I tried again several times over the next couple years. Around June this year I felt like they were playing the COVID card for way to long so I bought a Leatherman. I'm done with Gerber.

I mostly was saying that for me Gerber has served me better (types lf combos etc).

And the price is exceptional.

Meanwhile Leathermans discontinued the Squirt and replaced it with the infinitely less useful Micra. I love my Squirt, I think it’s the best keyring tool out there, but the company needs to stop discontinuing their most popular tools.

Good to hear yours lasted, but mine lasted about 3 months until the plyers snapped. They replaced it, and then the knife broke. Ive heard better things about the leathermen squirt

Can you tell me how you went about the process? I had a small knife that needed adjustment and they gave me the runaround/asked for shipping money/let us evaluate and we’ll tell you if it’s covered.

I was not pleased because shipping was nearly the cost of the knife.

I broke my MP600 twice, admittedly user mismanagement — mailed it in and asked what it would cost to replace broken knife and they just sent me a full new MP600 both times

I’ll only buy Gerber now for multis or knives etc

Damn, I didn't know they discontinued the Squirt. I really love mine and use it all the time. I was lucky enough to snag the torx screw version PS4 from ebay some years ago in excellent condition and at an excellent price. So at least if I had to I can replace parts as needed. Also great for modding it, as I've done. Really stupid that they changed to rivets.

No shit. I gave away a Gerber that the grips kept coming loose and the pouch strap broke. I bought the same one, but the pouch is wearing through the bottom now. I wonder if they'd send me a new one 🤔

S-ranks are actually a feature of Japanese academic grading, being their equivalent to an A+. Hence, Japanese games used that scale for their own grading, and thus the practice followed them across the pond.

Some games even have SS, SSS, or X ranks to denote extra super special ones.

I wouldn't bet on that. Gerber sells loads of models made in china these days. They used to be one of those brands where you knew no matter what if you bought a Gerber you were getting a quality product. Well, just like most everybody else they shipped off majority production to China and now only their most expensive items are still being produced in the USA.

Buck knives has done the same thing and in my opinion it is an absolute disgrace.

Id have to disagree, I grew up having people steer me away from their products because they where low quality. The stuff they produce now is a wide range of qualities, but you will always get what you pay for. Unlike leatherman or buck that dont always honor their warranty and are overpriced as all hell.

Sorry for the bad grammar. I keep responding on this sub right after I get off work. But what I meant was is after you ship a new part and even a tool to fix the part it will probably cost more then just replacing it. Or if I where to ship it to gerber, they pay for that, the new part, pay someone to fix it and then oay for them to ship it back to me. Youve probably already exceeded the cost of an off the shelf Dime by like 5 times.

I've bought myself exactly the same new one after my old one died on me. Will try it next time!
