I've borrowed Gma’s green crock for about a year. Last week moved into an old house and one of the best finds? Near perfect crock collecting dust in the garage. Works fine, just needs a new knob. They're 10-20 years older than me and going strong. Using them to make Grandma’s baked bean recipe for her 80th surprise party tonight.

those both definitely are painted with leaded paint and may have leaded glaze on the food contact surfaces. the PVC cord may also have used a lead-based catalyst to cure. some things you should not buy for life, such as consumer products produced before important safety regulations were instituted. buy it for life more like poisoning yourself for life.

The 1970s' combination of avocado, harvest gold, coppertone & orange was an abomination. Their were actually shag rugs that incorporated all 4 of those colors.
That's a great reminder for everyone on this forum who likes to buy vintage and go thrifting. They are not definitely painted with lead (especially the one from the 1980s), but they might be painted with lead. You can get lead test kits pretty cheaply from most hardware stores and you can check to see if your crocks have leachable lead.
This is a measure you should take with any vintage glazed dishes you inherit or buy second hand (particularly those from before 1971 when this began to be regulated), any glazed dishes that you buy through a venue that does not have a robust risk management program to keep them from being sued (that is, someplace like Target), or anything handmade if there is any chance they might be using older glazes.

That brown was called coppertone. And the goldish yellow was called harvest gold.
I was there. Although thankfully I never had that vomitus-colored shag carpeting. To me they always looked like someone threw up their pizza.
What I love about photos like this is you know that someone - maybe ya grandma- complained about the quality going down in the 80s and that’s why she kept using her older one.
If we made a bingo card for this sub then posts about Crock-Pots from the 70’s accompanied by comments about lead paint would be the free space.
I have the exact same model as the one on the left. Used to be grandmas.
I also have that exact same one on the left. It’s also missing the knob. It was a wedding gift from 1990. I just used it a couple days ago.
