Small nit pick - ‘ferrous’ just means it has iron in it and does not guarantee infinite cycle life. Cast iron or pig iron, for example, have a cycle limit.
For some reason, the inclusion of Carbon with Iron is what makes a material with infinite cycle life under a certain load, so Steels are generally the only materials with infinite cycle life at low cycle loads.

I have a noco gb40 which has impressed me with the power it can put out of such a small unit, it will easily start a 3.5 derv engine, even after 6 months on the shelf. These are around 100 usd, but there is the smaller, cheaper gb20 which should meet your budget.
Edit-had it approx 4 years, not exactly a lifetime, put a decent life for a jump starter, and still going strong.

"The NOCO GB40's can last a very long time due to the cycle capabilities of the lithium battery, the key is to charge them once every 6 months if they are in storage."
This is the one I have.

A cordless power brick, that charges cars and electronic devices. Look up NOCO starter. With one of these you don't need another car to jump-start.
I have one , saved my butt more than once.

Why don’t you just replace the battery in your car so you don’t have to jump start it???

Yeah was gonna add these lithium ion jump starter bricks have only been around a few years. I have one and love it but i wouldn’t call it BIFL for at least another 10 years.

I have enjoyed this thread, but did not realize it was going to create such a divide between those who make mashed potatoes with a mixer and those who make mashed potatoes with a masher.

Online stores are a better option as they don't have third party sellers. They aren't a marketplace like Amazon. Think of Amazon as a mix of a good mall and those crappyones with the small booths where people are selling fake oakleys all mixed together. Ordering from Walmart means you' might be getting the lower quality Walmart only SKU but it will probably be genuine. Probably because sometimes legitimate dealers get scammed too. REI had a batch of fake Benchmades they were selling in their physical stores

There's no such thing as a BIFL charger/starter like you are thinking of. They all contain batteries, and as such will have a short lifespan.
You can get a battery charger, however.

I would say none of those stores are reliable however they all sell some BIFL products.

All of you bitching about this person whipping their potatoes, I’m guessing you’ll need to talk to mom and grandma.
Mashed and whipped potatoes are perfectly fine….wastes of potatoes.🤓

It's a pressure vessel, that means it cannot be designed for infinite life, all pressure vessels eventually fail.

A generation is about 20 years. So since 1930 in the US you have The Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, Gen Z, and babies born today are currently a new unnamed generation.

My first thought too was "yikes, metal fatigue from heat cycles!". I'd be putting it in a shelf as decoration and buy a new one just to be safe.

Find someone to make you one with the leather you like. I had a guy custom made me a dark green shell cordovan wallet + card holder and it's amazing.
