Allen Edmonds, made right here in wisconsin. Buy a couple of pairs to rotate, use the trees religiously. I have been resolving a pair for about 20 years of use.

I hate when i see this posted here bc i had three of these crap out. I prefer the ibasso device i bought. It’s drag and drop, supports FLAC, and has a 1TB flash card in it.

Yep you hit the nail on the head! And I'm pretty sure if OP feels unable to do this themselves there will probably be relatively local services on stuff like eBay that will take care of it for them.

Switching to flash memory is an option and batteries are replaceable as are headphone jacks which can be another point of failure. BIFL sometimes means that something is able to be refurbished and can keep on going!

I love the click wheel - the ability to do something without looking at a screen is a wonderful thing!

Dockers have a Jean style flex fit. They have in slim, basically like wearing joggers all day.

Apple products are difficult to repair making them hard to declare "BIFL", but they are still built like tanks and last a long time.
This year's iPhone is a lot more user-serviceable than previous models so hopefully they are moving in the right direction.

Because at one point, the high costs were justified in Apples quality, along with the innovation at the time. Each product they came out with was something out of the future. My old iPods/iPads/Airport Extreme router still work after 10 years. But after Steve Jobs died, things changed, the quality just wasn't there anymore, it was more or less the same exact products since 10 years ago, and any "innovation" they claim has been done by competitors like Android years before, and the costs have skyrocketed.
Thats my reasoning for not liking Apple anymore. It has nothing to do with "envy" although I'm sure some Apple users might wish to see things that way.

Any that are resoleable. I don't know of too many brands that offer it, but Lundhags, Zamberlan (my brand of choice), Lowa, Hanwag and Altberg all make boots specifically designed to be resoled.
Now all of those brands are European, but I'm sure there are some American brands out there as well.

I have whustof classics, shuns and cutco. Which are all good, (shun I feel is too delicate) but my favourite is this oyo brand from Norway. It seems to hold the edge the best on sharpening, can just abuse it and it just stands up to everything.

My same gen classic barely lasted a year, never had any abuse, just died one day.

What boots ARE long lasting and meant to build character?
I walk 4 or 5 miles a day, and I got these when I became frustrated buying new shoes a few times a year.

I have some Farberware. I bought it so many decades ago that exactly when is lost in the mists of time. Defiitely not later than the 1970s. Use it all the time.

Inherited a set from my mom. Hers were probably from the early 50s. They are used in my garage - bolt sorters, parts washers, etc, etc. Far more abusive than anything she could throw at them and hey keep on going.

ITunes or whatever it's called nowadays still works with every iPod, up to the 2001 first gen. Put in your mp3s/AAC/ALAC from your ripped CDs, your totally legal downloads or whatever source of audio in the library, plug the USB cable and let it do it's thing!

Try Allbirds shoes. They are made of wool and sustainable materials in the sole and insert. You can get a variety of colors and they are really comfortable. You would think the wool would not be durable enough, but I've had one pair I've worn almost every day for months now, and no holes yet. Wool is sustainable and doesn't require killing a bunch of animals to make leather.
