Nothing received...but here are my "used" items:

  • 1950s aluminum Christmas tree with color wheel! From my MIL who dug it out of her attic when we bought a 1950s house.
  • I tuck the Christmas cards we receive into the frame of a huge 1960s dresser mirror (also courtesy of MIL) that now hangs above the mantle-less fireplace. The frame is loose enough that I can wedge cards between the mirror and the wood. Every now and then I think about getting a new mirror, but change my mind when I realize it takes years for the wood to shrink just enough to get the useful gap.

For $2k and under, I’d look at high-end secondhand. Look into estate sales and estate liquidators in fancy neighborhoods near you. Well-off people buy and sell houses, redecorate, and get divorced often. Downside is that you will have to move it yourself or pay for moving. Skip FB marketplace and middle income stuff, go very high end and people will practically pay you to take it. They just want it gone.

I usually just go to the Red Wing store, which I am fortunate to have close. I can buy laces or if I am getting a replacement for a pair of Red Wings and happen to be wearing them, they just give them to me for free and I change them out there.

I bought Asolo boots over 25 years ago. They're on their 5th or 6th new sole (and the last one says my shoemaker). He's also sewn the upper a few times. I keep them clean and snowsealed. It will be a sad day when I need a new pair.

I got this couch on amazon back when getting a couch shipped to you took 6 months but this one offered within the week delivery. Honestly, really nice quality and extremely comfortable. It has a deeper than usual seat cushion so I can cross my legs on the chair with comfort (something I prefer) and some friends + me have slept on it as it's a nice size when you move the back cushions. Do give the amazon brand a chance. They're getting these couches all from the same source at the end of the day.

I also have different styles and some of have that fit issue. Those are the socks that aren't as soft and don't stretch as much. I think that Darn Tough also just fits a little tighter than other socks.

Edit: Styles 1617 and 1437 are the ones I don't like.

1683, 1474, 1769, 1982 are great so far
