I have a bonded leather chair and it does get wear marks on the seams on one side. About once a year I patch it with vynil/ leather crack filler.

Honestly this is not BiFL but very fair service for less than half the cost of the typical chair recommended here.

Yes SC and HM are best in class. No argument. But my chair is not garbage one year later or even five of daily use. Not even close.

And that brings me to another point. Good maintenance is often as or more important than good quality.

Anything from Design Within Reach. Seconding Herman Miller. Also Knoll. They are the actual brands and designs that have been around since the 1950s (and before) and are still around today.

This may not be an acceptable answer, but I don't believe that you are going to be able to find a BIFL couch with a budget of $2k. That is a lovely aspirational goal, but it is not realistic.

If you truly want BIFL furniture, you need to look at what is known as "contract quality" furniture. It is often sold only to the trade, but you can also find it at certain retailers. Design Within Reach is one source, if that matches your aesthetic, which is likely since you previously shopped at Ikea.

For traditionally styled furniture, look at the North Carolina furniture mart, which supplies a lot of the hotels. It is a mall-style outlet which I think has an online presence now, so many suppliers are together in one place. There was one vendor with contemporary furniture among the hundred or so, the rest were all traditional.

These are likely to be out of your budget range. If you truly want to BIFL, then upholstery is not really that difficult to DIY. If you can pick up a vintage piece with a solid hardwood frame, then you just need a few simple tools and some time spent on youtube to strip it down and redo it. The supplies are readily available thanks to the internet and you get to choose your upholstery. [Again, go for contract quality! Do not skimp on the fabric!] www.foambymail.com is a great source for quality foam.

Good luck!

Buy etched metal measuring cups/measuring spoons! Printed measurements will wear off and you’ll end up trying to guess measurements and ruining a batch of cookies!

Cast iron will last forever, but enameled cast iron is less of a headache with a lot of the same durability.

Don’t bother with plastic Tupperware, just get glass. My plastic stuff got stained and/or broke in under a year.

Get wooden or metal cooking utensils if you can - plastic utensils can melt or start shedding bits of plastic into your food.

Get those huge glass jars with the metal latch that seals them, and use those for storing flour and sugar. If you freeze your flour and then transfer it into a sealed container, you don’t have to worry about bugs ruining a whole bag of flour. These types of jars are commonly at thrift stores.

I’ve given up on automatic coffee makers. Just get a kettle and a glass pour-over coffee maker and you’re good to go.

I usually get 5 years or more. This is one where I wish they lasted longer but it's usually the base or the armrest that goes for me, not the seat material. And they don't really seem to make a more expensive office chair that is otherwise the same as the bonded leather one. The closest leather ones I have seen were running 3,500 and weren't ergonomically the same. But that cost is like 7 replacements, which at 5 years each is 35 years to break even if nothing happens on the chair. Not sure that's going to be worth it.

What are toe socks like? When it's not cold I tend to go bare foot simply cause I find normal socks to be confining.

I've been looking into Japanese [Tabi socks] (https://www.amazon.ca/Pairs-Socks-Split-Women-Supplies/dp/B08L3KF73X/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=Tabi%2Bsocks&link_code=qs&qid=1672169941&sourceid=Mozilla-search&sr=8-5&th=1) myself.

I have a bogner. Have had it for 6 years at its amazing. I think a lot of their stuff is fashion, but I was able to find a plain black one. Love it. Nobis is also very good. Subtle branding.
