My current belt is my daily driver since roughly 10 years. Still like new. Handmade by a random leather worker in town from full grain leather, bought for like 30$ because he had it lying around.

Notting fancy, but that thing is just unkillable. I change the buckle when I need a fancier or more casual look...

I live near the factory, it definitely isn't a Chinese factory churning out rubbish haha. Can't speak for their bags because I've never bought one but I have some of their things which still look brand new, even down to a harness I bought for my dog which was more than well used before he outgrew it.

I mostly buy under armour and athleta leggings.

Not everyone has a BIFL experience with under armour but I certainly have. I beat that stuff into the ground and have some pieces for over 10 years with weekly wear. I began purchasing 10 years ago. That’s the life span. That includes leggings, sweatshirts, running shorts, base layers, cold gear and heat gear.

Athleta: I have casual one to wear under other items. I bought them in 2015 and they’re in great shape. I’ve gained weight so I’ll need new ones this year. 7 years for leggings is pretty decent! I also have dressier ones that I bought 3 years ago and they look brand new aren’t multiple wears weekly. I have exercise leggings that I bought 4 year ago, still in great shape.

For reference: my weight fluctuates 145-158ish, I live hard ( work, play, etc) and I’m hard on clothes. If I followed special washing I could probably get more life out of them. All my items go in the washer and almost always to the dryer and they still last.

I wear a Grip 6 belt daily. I have 2, one of which I’ve had 4 years or so and the other 2 years. No issue with stretching or loosening with the strap. I flip the head every once in a while to keep the wear on the strap relatively even (I’m not a bean pole, so the belt gets a little wonky here and there). They’re pretty comfy and versatile if you’re looking for a low profile, no nonsense belt.

I just had my Barbour jacket refinished (rewaxed). Said jacket is 40+ years old, has had 80,000+ miles of motorcycling in all sorts of weather, and is still in excellent condition. Having said that, and read the other comments, it's very probable that that level of quality has diminished considerably. Good luck with your bag, OP.

A dead giveaway of Barbours falling quality is the lack of pattern matching. Older barbour items featuring the tartan (plaid) check; shirts, hats, bags etc would always match the pattern at the seams, on newer items they can't be bothered to even try (or they won't pay the Chinese factory enough for these small but important details which they are quite capable of, for a price).

They’re heavy duty. If you’re using it every day in bad weather, then no, they won’t be bifl, but they will last reasonably well. Most Barbour stuff isn’t UK made any more, but there are loads of 50yo bags that the shooting & fishing community use that are in fine condition. Might be worth looking at specialists who make the bags themselves, rather than brands who outsource it, such as Chapman bags in Carlisle, UK, or someone closer to you in the Netherlands, rather than a brand that outsources to far flung countries.

I’ve worn my grip 6 belt daily for four years now. It’s just now starting to show some wear on the strap. By that I mean it now has some character not anywhere near failing. I’m considering getting another strap just because, not because I need one. I’m sure I can get another decade of use out of this belt. Definitely a lifetime of use out of the buckle.

I’m a bike mounted social worker in the Netherlands so finding a professional, feminine bag that can hold up to the weather has been tough. I don’t need waterproof per se, more like weather proof.

I bought this Barbour bag and I’m going to give it a try. On the one hand, I know this company is known for durability specifically in the weather conditions I need. On the other hand, the bag is fully fabric and 100% cotton so I’m worried about the durability of this specific model. Can anyone tell me a bit about Barbour fabrics? Are they all they’re chalked up to be?
