Reply to Dakine vs Swissgear Backpacks by bossycloud
I have a both brands and they've held up well. My swiss gear is almost 16 years old with mild signs of wear. I swapped it for the Dakine with waist strap for back problems. The Dakine weighs less, but also has a couple holes that haven't changed in years. I have no complaints about either.

If you don't like G-Shocks, or digital in general, get a Casio Wave Ceptor Tough Solar. Some of them do have digital sub-windows on the analog face. They are solar powered, and syncd to the Atomic Clock in Colorado. They are right to the second. They are suitable for blue collar work but look good enough to wear with nicer clothes. A great watch for under $100.

If anyone can destroy a casio gshock with actual use (ie not a hammer or blow torch) I've never heard of it.

How often do you get them serviced? I love the Hamilton Electrics from the 50s/60s, but with spare parts coming harder to come by, I've been hesitant to buy one.

KicKee Pants! It’s a brand I originally bought our baby’s clothes from, but they have fantastic bamboo underwear for adults. Just make sure to wash them in a garment bag but other than that they’re great and so so soft and comfy! They last a crazy long time, too.

My husband has had different sizes of this for well over 10 years, and there are no cracks in the lids of any of them.
The 16 cup size is big enough for a 5 lb. bag of rice or beans. We don't put 10 lbs. of anything in these because then we wouldn't be able to get it down from the shelf.

I'm trying to install values of "Buy quality and look after it" in my kids, my 8yo has a Casio Illuminator I got him about 2 years ago, wears it all day every day so in slightly worse condition than the above 😄 , but it's still working and most importantly will be part of his childhood memories. (I had Casio but strangely preferred plastic/resin. 🤷
More people need values like your Granddad. 👍

That's cool; I have the same certina from my grandad. Watch face just needed a polish. They go for like 600 bucks or so on the secondhand market in good order iirc

Grip6. Infinitely adjustable, lifetime warranty. I've used mine to hold up a hammock, and I've hiked through the bob Marshall wilderness with it. It's 3+years old and has no signs of wear. It is also one of the most customizable belts, with several choices for belt color and buckle color, style, and material. You can even get TSA safe carbon fibre buckles. They're extremely lightweight as well

This. Further the solar models eliminate battery changes so maintenance free as well. A caveat with Casios, especially the G-Shocks, is their thickness which can catch tight fitting (at the wrist) shirts and coats.

Kirkland socks are my go to for the white tube socks if you have a Costco membership. Last long and only $14 for 8 pairs.

Casio lineage with titanium case, standard lugs for when the strap needs replaced, sapphire crystal, solar face to reduce battery changes.

Fox Creek Leather makes all things leather for motorcyclists. Their belts are made from bridle leather and are thick (three US quarters stacked thick). The buckles are interchangeable with screws (I’ve lost weight and bought replacement belts but kept the buckles).
