I’ve not tried their warm weather gear but bombas’ cold weather stuff has worked super well for me recently. their socks aren’t darn tough or anything but their long underwear is fantastic

Dude / dudette, it breaks my heart to say that this thuesday I threw out my old dakine backpack... I got it as a pressent when I entered middle school (also 17 years ago) and I only had to get rid of it because I had used it for so long as a gym back that it started smelling real bad.

I have some -45C rated tall gaiter ones too. Ideal for snowblowing or cold outdoor work. Can drive in them but bulky. Wouldn’t want to hike in them admittedly.

Even today or is it the same as many brands that sold out over the years and cruise on their name?

Danner makes amazing boots. I have had my current pair for 3 years and they are nicely broken in while still in great shape. They have waterproof models and come in custom widths etc.
Love Danner, can’t go wrong with any choice from their lineup.

Reply to Another Dakine backpack! I begged my mom to buy, I think it was like 80 bucks 10 years ago. It even came with a pencil case that I still use! It's the only backpack I own. I use it for college, vacation trips, groceries etc. Looks brand new, only had to re-sew part of the zipper a couple months ago. by StarShoot97
I got the same backpack in red. Use it everyday and has been almost 11 years for me now.

There is really no standard or regulation, controlling the labeling of leather products that I’m aware of. There are a lot of industry terms, but as long as it’s made out of some kind of leather, you can call it leather.

100% cotton should last pretty much forever. I don’t own them but Filson’s Alaskan guide pajama pants should last a life time. I own the Alaskan guide flannels for 5 years and they look like new. 100% 8oz/yr so very thick organic cotton

If it says “genuine” leather it’s almost always the equivalent of chopped up pieces of leather glued together. Like mdf is to solid wood.

I’m using my Dakine duffle right now that I bought on sale for $40 like 5 years ago. Still in basically new condition despite me using it every time I go somewhere

I had mine replaced twice when the zippers failed, 3rd one was chewed by doggo so not covered by warranty but I can sew the strapping so I haven't binned it yet.

Yes to Dakine! I bought one as a diaper bag 12 years ago. It made it through 2 kids and has now become my daily "everything" bag. Hiking, sports, day trips, camping, literally everything! A clip broke once (shut in the car door) and they sent me a free repair kit.

Did you try to warranty it out? They probably would've replaced it for free

It looking "shitty" and being 17yo just goes to show how durable the bags are. You can tell OP beat the shit out of this bag over the years. To me that tells me it's a more durable bag than if someone had a 17yo bag that still looked new bc it was just used to carry a laptop to and from the coffee shop. OP mentioned in another comment that this is their main bag for camping too

Did the warranty process a few months ago. They have a 10yr warranty on their bags but the rep never made me cut the bag. They just sent me the gift certificate for the cost. Can't remember if we still have the original stuffed somewhere or we dropped it off at good will (more likely)
Edit: I think they had me send a pic of the tag with the production number on it which would prevent multiple claims

Is it the one with the cooler pouch on the front and the laptop area in the main part? Because I have a black one from around then and same story as yours.

I have a black Dakone backpack that I've had for about 20 years and have dragged it around the world. Still looks in great shape and I love it.
Never knew Dakine would make such a quality product when I bought it.

They probably thought it had a laptop in it. Reminds me of that classic post with the girl with her dead dog in a suitcase (to take to the vet for cremation) and when someone asked what was in it, she panicked and said laptops so they took it and ran off with it

Fiance had a dakine bag for about a year and the zipper stitching separated from the bag. It took them about 4 weeks from when I filled the warranty request to them sending me a gift card for the value of the bag. So even if it does have an issue, they cover them well.

Reply to BMW M leather jacket 40+ years old. I inherited it from my stepfather 20 years ago and wore it every year since then, like across fall & winter time. The zip is now broken, the color faded away but still - by far - my favorite jacket. by k7v1n
A decent tailor can replace the zipper, and then you've got another 20 years.
