Why not fish? I love the sound of my fish tank’s filter running, I always grew up around water and now live in a city so it’s really relaxing to me. I’m planning on adding some more surface greenery after I move and get the tank set up properly again, to add some plant life to my living room

Contact ekornes, they refurbish.

I have that chair with the signature base. I ruptured a couple discs in my back and couldn’t sit anywhere comfortably until I got it so worth every penny to me. Also still looks new after five years in a house with kids and dogs.

The Stressless is more comfortable definitely, it reclines as well and just pulls you in. The eames chair is my pick for style but the wife likes the stressless for that category as well, she likes the leather back because “we have enough wood furniture already.” Nothing as timeless as a Herman Miller eames chair imo, stressless comfort is just unrivaled though.

It’s an upside down catfish. I’ve had mine for about 18 years as well. Rarely see it tho because they’re nocturnal

I happened to volunteer at a parrot sanctuary years back... One macaw was reportedly in his 80s. Not too shabby at all. (But also please don't get them as pets, there's a reason random warehouses of unwanted exotic birds are all over lol)

Might just settle for a cheap uninsulated one for now.

How would you compare the two for comfort and style?

Be careful with that — the machine is already going to be mostly metal, but they made that part plastic for a reason. Most presumably, because it would be difficult to oil it as needed as time goes on.
I have a vintage Bernina with a plastic cam gear that also can break over time — still going strong! People have figured out how to mill new ones from plastic, and are experimenting with strength of resin-cast and 3D-printed versions.

Buy from smaller, even local brands. Bigger companies will buy/be bought and be focused so much on profits that even the thing that made them famous will be costed out.
Buying small/local helps ensure that company will be around longer and continue to make good products.

Sales guy said "x" is evidence of nothing since their motivation is to get a sale.

Picked up a matched pair of these last fall for $150. One was in very rough shape due to a run-in with a cat, but the other just needs a bit of attention to the leather.

I love the Ekornes recliners, but be aware - peoples’ heads have quite a combo of oils and acids in their hair, even clean hair. Without regular cleaning and conditioning of the leather - say, annually - the leather will eventually break down and you will have a raggedy-ass hole in your gorgeous chair.

I might be wrong, but there is no clear outstanding softshell textiles that are better than others. They all depend fully on being taken good care of to perform as intended for a longer period.

There's this new company I found called Maisō. Slightly pricier, but the design and quality is nice. It's been working pretty well for me currently.

I am more than willing to pay for quality. Good quality products cost more and that’s fine. Where I draw the line is where the quality stops increasing and the price increase is simply branding/marketing.
Cheap products are cheap at first but they break more easily and you’ll need to replace them. That hassle of having something (half-)broken, trying to replace it etc. is simply no lt worth. It also ends up being more expensive in the long run when you factor in how often you have to replace it plus your time and effort to replace it.
I rather buy the more expensive product knowing that it’ll last. I do proper research online including here to see what lasts.
