Usually the higher the GSM (grams per square meter) rating the more fluffy and absorbent the towels will be. I usually go with 700+ GSM towels on a minimum for myself. Usually if you can find a higher GSM towel by a reputable manufacturer you should be good to go. High quality materials definitely make a big difference in absorbency and softness as well, so that’s always something to keep in mind. Also the way the towels are stitched, dyed, and put together can be a good indicator of how durable they will be long term.

Ikea honestly had decent towels.

This is true. But for now I’m just enjoying the sound.

I wish there were more places people could A/B compare them with solid state. Though the MC7300 is certainly a worthy competitor!

As long as guitarists exist, somebody will still be producing tubes. I don't think tube guitar amps are going anywhere. They've remained strong throughout 20+ years of digital tube amp simulation and I don't foresee that changing

From what I understand, amp design can have a pretty significant impact on tube life. The harder the tubes are driven, the more often they’ll need replacement, so the amp tubes (the large 4) will need to be replaced probably twice as often as the pre-stage (the smaller ones in front). Considering this only puts out 75 watts per channel, it’s a pretty conservative design.

One question, what parameters to keep in mind while purchasing a towel online? Thread count etc? Any thing else in particular?

Redland cotton /thread.
They’re not the “ultra mega super plush” kind of towels (which that overly-plushness actually contributes to fiber degradation over time) but it’s a cross between a waffle and a “regular” towel imo. Super absorbent and very, very high quality.

I would like to know this as well. I'm so tired of buying a nice looking towel set only for it to freaking repel water.

This is definitely true from all the posts I've read in r/coins of people just unloading entire collections into Coinstar machines.

I’ve got these quick drying towels from LLBean that are indestructible. They have not faded or yellowed or discolored after 10 years. They’re a thin nubby texture as opposed to fluffy and soft, but I love the feel. They also do really dry quickly so no stank.

A “bargain” and a real heritage design that isn’t just OpAmps dressed up in a fancy black and green box.

In that case, Abyss & Habidecor Super Pile are about the best you can buy. They will spoil you.

For sure, Ive hand-soldered point-to-point tube power amplifiers, so I totally understand, but at a point, a large percentage of the asking price is gatekeeping the prestige, regardless of how transparent the soundstage. I bet they do sound phenomenal though.

Money is no object. I bet if you divided the cost per use compared to the cheap ones I have, yours would still be cheaper.

I picked up some Super Pile towels from Abyss & Habidecor probably 7 years ago, and they’re still kicking butt. Very expensive towels, but they’re by far the softest, most absorbing, and nicest towels that I’ve ever owned. If they’re in your budget, or you can find them on sale they’re really phenomenal towels.

Gorgeous. I love their early solid state amps, MC 2205 for the win (the tube era is largely too rich for my blood)

Casio make great functional clocks, if a bit ugly.
They also make wristwatches with hourly chimes that are loud enough. An F91W is like $10.

Yes, I’m aware that solid state has been invented. While the tubes here will need eventual replacement, they are obviously user replaceable, so no technician needed for the most common “repair”. Although the overall design is 60 years old, they’re using modern caps here, so those should last just as long as any other quality amp.
But, because of the simplicity and long history of this product, there will likely always be a source for any needed parts and repairs, unlike most vintage electronics. Additionally, due to what it is (an amp, nothing more), there is no technology to become obsolete. How many perfectly operating A/V receivers are now useless due to changing technology? The Denon AVR5600 released in 1998 was the ultimate AV receiver and sold for over $5000. But… no HDMI, no 4k, no modern deciding, and today it’s virtually worthless.
