My dad's VW Polo is from 2007 and its still going strong. Only issue was a stone through the windscreen and the suspension going but other than that, smooth sailing. He runs that thing hard too. Also, old VW Golfs are upcoming classics... might want to look after yours if you've got one

It's like a trap door. You push down in the middle with the rubbish and it folds down, opening in the middle.
Unless you push it all the way open, it closes automatically. If you push it all the way open, it holds in open position so you can more easily deposit larger rubbish.

What size bags do you use? I live in a region with taxed trash bags (and only 3 sizes available), finding a really good trash bin is surprisingly hard. My bags are 35l btw.

BMW is fine if you take care of it as intended. You can’t drive it around with the dash lit up like a Christmas tree like you can with a Japanese car. Also depending on how you drive diesel may be more reliable for you. If you do a regular weekly or twice weekly 40 min freeway run you’d fit the bill for diesel. Diesel engines are more liable. If you intend to run around town with it then diesel is not for you. Also if you can do your own wrenching a lot of the repairs aren’t too bad. You can also hang around the FB forums and get to know local home garage enthusiasts who can help you with some repairs. The dealer is a rip off. But the performance and drive feel of a BMW is much better than most other cars. You have to drive them to understand.

I had some Blundstones that I got in 2008, when they first offshored production to China. Last month both just completely separated from the soles. Corresponded with Blundstone a bit with the pics and customer rep said fill out a warranty claim. They approved it and sent me a brand new pair! I found a place in Oregon that resoles Blunnies and will send off since I love my old ones. But great customer service.

I have their Border model from around 2000. I periodically send it back to Barbour and they reproof the coat and also stitch up anything that needs it. Last time I did it was less than $50. I just dropped it off to Orvis and they took care of sending it in. Yes, I could reproof it myself but well worth to just have them do it. Looks new when it comes back.

I had the same issue with my solid gray pillowcases. I got a set of complementary white/gray striped cases and the staining isn't as noticeable. You can also flip the cases after 2 days so he's sleeping on the "fresh" side. And as someone else mentioned I have multiple pillowcases and switch them out every 2-3 days. I actually feels better to sleep on the clean cases.

Sounds like something I'd buy, is Onsen the brand or are they just what's used at Onsen bathhouses?

Company store is the answer. They have a lifetime guarantee, we never use a duvet, and they come out to the wash just fine. One of ours that lost some down fill over time was replaced for free. The Lacrosse medium fill is the place to start.

Onsen Waffle Towels, especially when on sale. I bought a set a few years ago and was dubious of a waffle towel being absorbent. Boy was I wrong. Bought 3 more sets and they are going strong. The plus is the towels themselves dry really fast and never get a musty smell after a few uses. I give sets as gifts and everyone I give them to loves them. I'm impressed with how they've lasted as well.

Smartwool makes a pair of wool lined leather gloves that have worked well for me so far. I have not done much in the way of hard work with them so I am not sure how they will hold up to that, but they have worked great for light duty so far (honestly for heavy duty work your hands will be to hot in lined gloves anyway).

It's just a split folding lid. Normally it's closed and it closes by itself if you throw things through, unless you push it all the way open. Then it can stay open for easier access (like pictured).
