We had one of these. Made the worst coffee. Didn't matter what we did, more coffee, less coffee, fresh tap water, water that sat in an open jug on the counter overnight...

But what is there to discuss? I’m not judging just find it funny as a discussion topic. If I ever randomly join people talking about how good water is in real life. I think I’d just laugh lol

I’ve never understood this sub. Water, everyone likes it. What is there to talk about? lol. Is there a sub for oxygen?

They use a pretty heavy coating to give the leather that smooth look. It's cheaper than getting really smooth leather but the downside is that you can't buff the scuffs out. I suspect they're relying more on the coating to cover up cheaper leather now based on all the quality issues people have been having lately.

You really have to go out of your way to find the English made ones. The ones in most shoe stores are the cheap black ones made in Asia

>You can literally have the long lasting version right next to cheap junk and even tell them that the longer lasting one will last decades, and consumers will still buy the junk one.
People don't really trust corporations. I sure don't. Even though I get it from an engineering perspective. Yet I'm still dubious when I see a $150 version of a product sitting next to a $35 one. Instinct tells me the more expensive one is a cash grab - because that's what companies do today. They pad their margins.
I have no trust that the more expensive one will really last a decade. And it it doesn't how do I know that I won't be put into phone menu hell when I try to exercise my warranty? "HUMAN!" "HUMAN!".
It's been made easier to throw stuff away, IMO.

Any bike worth buying can be BIFL if you take care of it, that's one of the wonderful things about bikes! I do get why people are into Rivendell, though. For a particular cycling philosophy and aesthetic, they are really just the ultimate.

They've never had good grip in my experience, the urethane soles are like bars of soap in the winter

I’ve gone through a lot of bikes over the years. I currently have four. This is still my favorite over all time, and the one bike I will never sell. It’s had three paint jobs, and several group sets. I ensure it gets the best of everything even though it’s been relegated to being my ‘car’.
Grant knows how to design bike frames. I’m a big fan of Rivendell. I got a little tired of the classical Rivendell builds with everything having to be aesthetically just so, or you’re not part of the Riv faithful. Found myself annoyed with the gatekeepers and snobs online. So as a rebel, I built it up with a XX1 transmission, black cranks, black handlebars, black suspension post, cranks, etc. Still twined the kickstand though. :)
I hope you get one! You won’t regret it.

Solovair bought the old machines when Dr martens went overseas and they still make boots the way they used to make them. They're more expensive than docs but you're getting a quality boot for your money, not just the name tag. Rose anvil made a comparison video where he cuts them in half and shows the difference in build quality if you're interested

The t shirts specifically? I'm only advocating for those, not their other clothing. For 6 bucks they've lasted longer than t shirts 7-10x the cost for me.

The ones they make currently are mostly crap. Solovair bought the machines when Dr martens went overseas so if you're in the market for a new pair check them out. The asian import docs look like the $20 boots at Walmart, I was really surprised to see how shitty they are now. They still make some in England and while I personally think they're overpriced the quality is much better. here's a comparison video of solovair and the england docs

And distilled can eat away at the internals too, instead of leaving buildups. Water naturally want some minerals, and distilled has very low or none

Lactic acid works too.
Boss has some for larger Keurieg units when we have to clean them. Safer and not as strong as what we use in shop when we rebuild anything.

My folks got one just like that for their wedding in 1983. They're not coffee drinkers, but still have it when they have guests who are. Still works just fine.
