Two 25 year old pedestrians were killed in a crosswalk in Stamford this morning, bringing the 2022 death toll to 66 pedestrians and bicyclists. This is the highest number of killed pedestrians since FARS records begin in 1994. Pedestrian deaths have been on the rise in the USA in recent years, while in other OECD countries they have been falling. The policies that would prevent these deaths are well known, but would mildly inconvenience drivers, so we don't implement them.
