>Why can't we do donuts here?

Better questions to ask are: "why can't places with better donuts do better coffee?" and "why do New Englanders settle for DD's mediocrity?"

Donut Crazy in West Hartford is pretty good. But I agree, I don't understand why people like Dunkin at all, the donuts are absolutely trash and the coffee is McDonald's tier, so it's drinkable but nothing great. Any little Vietnamese run donut shop in California would absolutely blow New England's mind.

I haven't been to a Dunkin Donuts once since they borked their rewards program.

Now we either go to Cumbys or I make it at home.

It amazes me at the length of the lines I see at every DD too. The food is inedible, and the coffee very inconsistent.

I can't imagine why people like Dunkin Donuts. I grew up in this area and all we had for donuts really was Dunkin Donuts -- so I thought all donuts tasted like dry, chemical garbage. I moved out west as an adult and it was years before I bothered to try donuts, and they were delicious at both the chains like Krispey Kreme and even moreso the small shops.

Come back here and everything is disgusting again at DD and every small store that makes them they taste like dry flakey bread, like all Italian pastries. Why? Somebody tried to take me to a gourmet donut shop around here and once again it was like the driest, blandest donut I've ever had with some toppings on top. Why? Why can't we do donuts here? Why can't anybody make them taste like the delicious, soft doughy fried experience they should be?

My parents are boomers... and my father is a habitual tailgater. I'm someone who values human life and thinks reckless driving is retarded and maladaptive. It has nothing to do with age, except I guess some young people are still caught in the fallacy that bad things can never happen to them. If you're behind me while I'm passing, you get to wait until I'm done, and if you tailgate, it's going to take longer until I'm done. Maybe someday you learn. Some people never do.

I work as a sub paraprofessional in Farmington and I’d definitely recommend the district. All of the kids are really cared for. For example, everyone makes the effort to get to know the all of the kids names, even if they are support staff and don’t directly work with them every day. Also, all of the special ed teachers I’ve worked with in the district have gone above and beyond. For example, while working in the special ed classroom during summer school, every Friday we would have water play outside with popsicles and once a week we’d do a “cooking activity.” In addition to traditional class work, all of them went out of their way to help students feel like it was just another camp.

Also, kids in Unionville go to the Farmington district schools so you could also consider moving there! I can’t speak to any other districts but I know that Avon is a safe and comfortable town.

Finally, don’t be afraid to directly contact the head of special education at any of the schools you are considering. They can set up a tour and help talk you through any of your concerns.

Hard no on sending your kid to school in Hartford ❌

My wife teaches integrated special education in Northern Connecticut. Recommends looking for a school system that offers public PreK to ensure your child gets started with services. Most districts will host an initial PPT and then propose additional testing as needed. For students with autism the VBMAPP program is often implemented and highly effective in creating meaningful progress. Occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech and language services can all be provided within the school day with peer and teacher modeling to positively impact social behaviors. You also have the right to request a PPT at any time if you feel additional support is needed. Best wishes to you and your family!!
