Reply to My new landlord by WaqqiTV

They cannot raise your rent until your lease expires. They can then write a new lease and raise your rent and you would have to sign that then, which from what you said sounds like July. Since you have time, you can compare what your new rent would be to what other places are renting for at the moment around you. If raising it by 550 a month is about the same as what other people are charging total than you are, probably just going to have to pay the higher rent. Most landlords raise the rent yearly, especially those that are corporate owned like apartment complexes. Private landlords can vary , some will never raise the rent, and some will always raise it yearly. It’s nice that you have this many months to figure it out, most people only got a notice that the rent is going to be raised 30 or maybe 60 days before hand. You have lots of time to do some research and figure out if the new price in July is worth it or not.

Then why can't the insurance companies show that it costs them more money?

That's all I want them to do. If they want more money from people that own pitbulls, they should be able to show that pitbulls cost them more money. According to that State Representative in the article, they can't do that.

Insurance isn't a game of "I charge what I want". They use actuarial science, which might as well be magic to me, to determine what to charge. If that process can't show that pitbulls cost insurance companies more, then they shouldn't get to charge more.

Do you even understand what cost of living is? Yes it costs more to live in a better place where there are better, higher paying jobs.

The taxes is the only thing we’ll agree on, but for me, it’s offset by all the positives.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

I am a biracial woman living in Connecticut with a white husband and I see the way my husband is treated compared to how I’m treated…. The comparison is stark.

I’ve had college professors who have quoted the bell curve. I’ve had older male friends, express racist ideology against Asian people which shocked me. I had an older white male friend gleefully declare that he was a racist and an antisemite. I’ve heard the N-word in work environments. I’ve had coworkers make endless racist jokes.

I’m not sure what state you’re coming from but Connecticut is not a bastion of social progressive behavior, but it is very fiscally progressive, which is great.

Nutmeggers generally respond to this by saying that it’s worse in the south, which is probably true I’ve never lived down south. Essentially what they’re trying to say is shut up it could be a lot worse but I think it could be a lot better and that’s gonna take work and the acknowledgment that there is a problem here.

Sure, but that apparently doesn't translate into increased costs for insurance companies. If it did they would be able to demonstrate that with their actuarial tables. They can demonstrate that young drivers crash more and cause more damage when they drive, so they have to pay higher premiums. If they can't demonstrate that pitbull owners cause more claims than other breeds then they shouldn't be able to charge more.

I absolutely appreciate your post. Thank you so much. I completely agree with you for everything when it comes to Minneapolis. I don’t not like the city. I do like it, it’s just I’ve had the urge to go home the last couple years. I will take into heavy consideration your explanations for the various regions of CT and how they are compared to here. Thank you tons this really helped.

I have heard this take before and I think it is accurate. People from other parts of the country have kind of a fake politeness to them. In New England we're more prickly and introverted but we're not bullshitters and if you need help we'll help. Just different strokes.

This entire situation is appalling. Trulieve has been allowed to conduct their own study on workers safety, after their actions caused Lorna McMurray to die, in order to obtain a reduction in fines. "Pending the outcome of the study, Trulieve will design and implement a temporary information and training program ....." Just long enough to repair their image and not incur too much cost.

“At this time there is no disciplinary impact on Trulieve’s Connecticut license based on the settlement reached with OSHA,” Um. Ok. But I feel like maybe DCP is missing the point here. There should have been disciplinary impact on their CT license all along based on the POOR WORKER CONDITIONS REPORTED that ultimately resulted in the death of a human being!!

Anyway, good article. Thanks for sharing.
