Las Delicias Latina
My Step Mother was from Mexico and between going there and being cross mixed with the Mexican community in Tennessee I grew to appreciate much of their culture. Like ours it has its better parts, its "worse" parts and its stranger parts. The food at Las Delicias Latina was identical to my step mothers, the Mexican community in TN and in Mexico. It was better than my Step Mothers cooking too. The atmosphere, color scheme, music, everything was just right. It transported me back to Mexico. Everyone was nice and the prices were good. I'd love to get loot there again but without a car and being disabled sadly I probably wont.

Funny I’ve had similar sentiments towards people with giant pickups. It’s always some dude who looks like a thumb driving like he’s on his way to save the world. Usually sporting a no step on snake sticker.

Main Street, Torrington.
Las Delicias Latina
I only got to eat there a handful of times TBE year before Covid started when I lived out there. The ambiance, food, staff and everything elae made me feel like I was in Mexico (although it could be a neighboring country) again. My step mother was from Mexico and I got to spend time on a handful of trips in Mexico from Mexico City as to way out in the country far from tourist areas. Famous places to rural villages. When I lived in Tennessee there was a large Mexican community there that I was loosely a part of and I enjoyed much of the culture and A LOT of genuine food.......
Las Delicias Latina is authentic in food and atmosphere from color, design and music to staff and especially food I genuinely felt like I was in Mexico when in that restaurant and I want to go back so bad now, if only I had a car. The prices were great too. Just incredible, all of it. And I found it completely by accident. I was struggling to stay sober and I walked home a different way to avoid liquor stores however I saw this place and it combined with the beer sign drew me in. I did drink (lapsed for one night) that night but not the other times there.

Gilson Theater and R&B Sports world in Winsted. The first is a dine-in movie theater. Legit get a meal and a drink while you watch a film. The other has mini golf, an arcade, batting cages, stuff like that.

Blue Sky was a Disney cost cutting/consolidation move. Wasn’t really a CT issue.

Up there, New Park.
Counterweight is in Cheshire now, so not far.
Fox Farm is worth a drive. Best in CT IMO.
12% isn’t far from you either, and is excellent.
Tribus, East Rock, Kent Falls, NEBCO, Armada, Beeracks, Nod Hill, Berlinetta just a few others worth a visit. Two Roads has some really solid brews too.

Lifetime resident of Manchester. Town is fine and well run. If you stay away from drugs you are very unlikely to get into trouble. Manchester is a small city and has some city problems but, it is nothing like Hartford. South of 384 and the Northeast corner of town are very nice. Avoid Main Street east to Autum Street and Main west to McKee Street and South of Middle Turpike, You will be fine.

With the budget you stated above and not planning on having a family, you could definitely buy within walking distance of West Hartford center and take advantage of its culinary diversity and activities.

We need more development in dense and TOD areas, but I’ve seen this law be more of a boon for greedy developers encroaching on single family neighborhoods. There’s gotta be a better way.

Milford schools are not eh. Where’d you get that from?
Number 32 in a state that is near the top in the country for public education.
https://www.niche.com/k12/search/best-school-districts/s/connecticut/?page=2
It’s also socioeconomically diverse which is rare for a town with good schools.
Nearby Orange ranks almost near the top (it’s less diverse), but I doubt you’ll notice a huge difference in school quality.

Look at Milford, Orange area. More affordable than lower FFC and tremendous area with lots to do. Near New Haven which is CT’s cultural and food capital.
