Nixon:

  • raised the minimum wage by 40% in 1974
  • proposed the Family Assistance Program that would have guaranteed a minimum annual wage for families
  • proposed expanding Medicare / Medicaid so that everyone would be covered by a government program
  • signed the Clean Air Act and created the EPA and OSHA
  • expanded the food stamps program

Maybe do some research.

When my grandson came of age, i told him the true story that my High School had 2 real trouble makers. As Sophomores they were the only ones with cars, already shaving, 18 years old, multiple suspensions from school for fighting. Both went on to be police in my town. I wanted him to understand that just because someone is a policeman don't assume he's a good guy. I think and hope these kinds of cops are in the minority but the whole blue group takes the hit because even the good ones cover for the bad ones. They bring this on themselves.

Look south of Glastonbury. Search in Portland, East Hampton, Hebron. All of these towns would have an easy commute to Glastonbury. If you’re going to need to drive to a Glastonbury office then you should eliminate the 84x91 traffic commute. Just my .02.

If you enjoy just walking (as opposed to only hikes) then Glastonbury downtown has a wonderful sidewalk system that you can easily walk 5+ miles daily without dodging cars. There are also walkable restaurants from the center. Glastonbury is a wonderful town but you’ll probably pay more in taxes to fund a school system you might not take advantage of.

Also I guess I found one of the Subaru drivers that likes to tailgate me. You must enjoy the view of my a**hole? Not sure why else you'd be so close you could potentially underhand an empty water bottle into the bed of my truck from your Subaru behind me. But a fair and general warning, I'm getting better at accepting that brake checking has become a part of my life and who I am. It just is and I'm okay with it and sleep well at night. Also I'm getting quicker with my timing with more and more practice out in the streets. I'm hoping one day to eventually be able to make contact with you. 🤗

The problem is too big at this point, to be completely honest. The reverence of large lot sfh development has put enormous pressure on the housing stock to the point where CT's economy is in pretty significant danger of stalling. If towns sprinkled in house-scaled multi family units or even split lots to make room for more "starter houses" like we used to build and rezoned solely SFH areas to have local retail and apartments (you know, the pre-1970s style development in CT) then there wouldn't be as much pressure of 8-30g. The number one go to move of PNZ boards was to do nothing, and the supporters of the large lot sfh lifestyle is "do more of nothing and with less government oversight." It boggles the mind to give more power to the people that couldn't manage a little responsibility... all because they have erroneous assumptions on how land value economics work? No thanks.

The "oh well we can concentrate everything we need to do in a small area" isn't going to work, and that's the pill large lot sfh fans are going to have to swallow.

There's a little cluster of thrift shops in the Woodbury/Southbury area: two on the grounds of Southbury Training School, one in Bennett Square in Southbury (Safe Haven Thrift), another off Route 6 in Southbury called "The Upper Room", and just up the road in Woodbury you have The Red Barn thrift shop. Days and hours for the latter two are somewhat limited but worth arranging your schedule for. Make a day of it and hit up Carole Peck's Good News Cafe in Woodbury, and Soulbury in Woodbury too - right on your way to New Morning Market!

If you have the budget, would fully rec WH. That being said, if you’re working in Gbury the commute will be atrocious in the morning but you should be fine in the evening. If you want to stay East of the river, Gbury/SWindsor are nice but you’re correct in that there aren’t many smaller size homes. If building is an option I’ve seen decent prices on lots in those areas as well.
