Reply to First eversource bill since raised rates by ColCrockett
The first knee jerk response to go solar and begin taking on a huge responsibility and lock yourself into more payments. Which is typical.
But why not figure out why you used so much electricity? You say energy friendly but that bill doesn’t represent it. Even at half the rate that’s a ton of energy. (Look at the comment with the dude has solar + paying 300)
My bill was $189 (record high) for 1600 square feet using oil. Mostly because I’ve been supplementing using space heaters.
Maybe an energy audit, or look at your month over month usage and see where the spike is. I’ve gone through all my equipment and calculated how much electricity I use and why.
My hot tub for example, I estimate is about $30 a month by itself and the heaters are $40 ($1-1.50 per day) the math worked out close because last year this time my bill was $120
Having control and knowledge over your usage helps stability in your bill. That’s energy friendly ;)
The rush to get solar and keep carelessly burning up energy blows my mind here. Don’t forget to switch your supplier and save 10 cents per kw.
Lastly: oil heat burns a lot of electricity as well with hot water. The blower motor constantly runs, I replaced mine with new energy efficient one.

If you can't afford a lawyer, don't try for a free consult from a young lawyer (I say as a former young lawyer). Get in touch with CT legal aid: https://ctlegal.org/ This sort of thing is right up their alley.

Electric heat, 3 heads, 1 air handler that does heat AC . Family of 4 in a 2500 Sq. Ft. House
My bill just came out to 240.50(generation only). This is with constellation, without it would be 400 just for generation.

For the first time I bought those cartons of Kirkland cages free egg whites. Actually pretty sweet, shake it up make omelette scrambled eggs.
Was worth it, so cheap like 10 bucks for 6 cartons of it. I’m not paying more then 3-4 for a dozen eggs.

Wow, scummy landlord! I don't have the answers for you but might be worth talking to a lawyer. Interested in the outcome of this

Reply to Are electric supply rates expected to drop again mid-year? Does a frugal homeowner need to check rates 2x/year to make sure they're getting the best deal? by sadswirlofme
You don’t need to switch every 6 months if you utilize EnergizeCT and select a different supplier.
I had a 7 cents rate for 3 years with Liberty power. Now I have 13 cents for 3 years through constellation.
You can still grab a 14.8c for 34 months at thinkenergy in that link. There is no difference in suppliers just a weird gimmick we do here

Historically I’d look every 3-4 months or so, just to check. Who knows where rates are going moving forward though.

Even if price of oil/natural gas tanks, there is exactly a 0% chance eversource drops production or delivery rates. They will continue to increase endlessly because there is no oversight.

Keep the proof and tell them you found out about it and ask for your money back.
If that fails, threaten to go to a lawyer. Hopefully the threat of a lawyer will get them to give you your money back.
Otherwise, if you can't afford a consultation with an attorney, there might be resources to get free consultations from young lawyers who are looking to make a name for themselves. Also, the state of CT might have programs to get you consultations with attorneys specifically to fight against landlords.
And I say this as a landlord in CT myself 😉
