Open both hot and cold sides and let that space heater do its thing.

Had this happen a couple of years ago, it was -20c outside. Ended up upping the temperature on everything inside from 22c to 30c to cope. Used a lot of electricity but the pipes thawed after a few hours from just heating the house more.

Ah, ok, you mean underground ones. We use conduits in the wall, either metal tubes, or plastic corrugated conduit, I thought you meant those.

Do not shock your pipes with heat. No heat guns, no torches. Thaw them out with a hairdryer, or small.spacw heater. Then find out why they froze and fix it.

Thaw it out immediately. That ice is bad news.

I would unfreeze them as soon as possible. The B*tch of it is that ice expands, so just because it isn't broken now does not mean it won't be broken later. The expanding for of ice is unmatchable.

As long as nothing is leaking, you should be okay. Just keep an eye out when it starts to thaw, because ice doesn't leak though pipes obviously.

Yes the wire that goes to the switch does form a loop. Confusingly, often the wire that’s “supposed” to be the neutral or white wire is, in this configuration used as a “hot” or black wire. If you look closely at the picture, the white wire running between the light and the switch has little black sections at either end. This is supposed to be representing the idea that, in this case, the white wire is being used as black. Glad it’s working now.

Direct bury armoured cable.
Underground conduits tend to fill up with water.

Reply to comment by artfellig in Anyone have experience with tiny digital projectors? by artfellig
I don't know about tiny, but there are some reasonably small displays (about 8 inches, using TV measurements), the one I have connected via USB, with separate power cable. Worked great for displaying stuff kinda like a Picture-in-Picture thing.
frustrated_staff t1_j1hgecz wrote
You can get a really small image, really, really close up. I had one of these for a Karaoke thing I used to do, and yes, I wanted to project a large image reasonably far away, but I also had to test the thing before putting on the show. So...got it all hooked up and ready and tested it in my palm. Still looked good and worked great. Very bright. In my palm, the edge of the projector was less than a foot away at filling-my-palm size.

You can tell how it’s wired by the fact the original dimmer was between two blacks.
I’m not saying to assume that white is neutral for the purpose of fitting a smart switch here, I’m saying assume white is neutral so you don’t wire a switch to short it to live. The new switch needs to be wired like the old dimmer, not like the picture in the link at the start of this sub thread.

How is your attic below freezing temperature? Is it completely sealed off from the rest of your house? Do something to allow air from the conditioned spaces to warm your attic a bit

Underground conduit is rare. Armoured cable is far more common.

In many countries solid wire is used. Generally multi strand is only used if wires are pulled through conduits.
In domestic builds conduits are used less frequently.
