Reply to comment by skydiver1958 in New painter questions about old paint on walls, unpainted popcorn ceilings and primer! by thatoneguyovertheres
Yep, I had this done before moving to my current place and am now finally getting around to repainting each room in turn. I got quotes for a few options, this skim coating over the popcorn, putting new drywall below it, and full scraping/removal and then skim coating. This was the cheapest option, though adding an extra layer of drywall wasn't much more - but it would have lowered the ceilings perceivably, whilst the skim coat is really only taking off maybe 10mm from the total height of the room - totally unnoticeable.

This sounds like a terrible idea. That will mess up the wood floor for sure. If you want heat, use a heat gun and a scraper, not boiling water.

I'm honest, and in the cell phone situation, we know it is actually a charger (115/240 VAC in, 5 VDC (in most cases) out. You can take in anywhere.
In the car scenario, you supply mains to the car (unless a SuperCharger/Fast charger when you actually do supply a DC voltage) and the 'charger' sits on board. One reason that in most cases, you cannot take a US spec car and 'connect it'/charge it in Europe, etc. The 'charger' is very specific to the market.
This might be a bit geeky, but I like the way this guy explains it:
https://youtu.be/RMxB7zA-e4Y
I don't expect to 'win the battle' but I do like to educate people on what it is. EVSE is not a charger :-)
And maybe as a poor analogy; we expect drivers to know the difference between a gasoline and a diesel engine (as it’s sort of important). Hopefully we can get drivers to know the difference between an EVSE and a charger as well.
Happy New Year!

Is that a recent code addition? I thought you only required a neutral if the switch required one. That is, a simple 3 way switch like above does not require a neutral at the box.

There has to be a header board across the top of the opening, or it would collapse.
Get a long screw and drive it in until you feel more resistance. That will tell you how long your screws need to be.
Don't underestimate the force that will be acting on the screws. That child is going to grow fast, and they get wild in those jumpers.

It probably doesn't matter that much because the 1x6 should be attached to a 2x4 above it. Note that the 1x6 is only 3/4" thick, so it's a somewhat smaller target than you might think. You will want to use a pretty thick screw eye, especially if you are mounting it horizontally.

Boiling water and a towel. Work fast, little areas at a time so as not to damage the floor. Just dump the water, cover with towel, couple minutes later scrape and dry.

So door frames structurally are pretty different from just having a 1x6 on each side, and if you’re not finding studs above the door I’d be a little concerned. Even if this is designed to utilize trim it’s still reliant on that framing to support the weight.
15 lbs doesn’t seem like much until it’s bouncing like nonstop, and worse case here is you bring some shoddy framing down on your little one.
To answer your question though, no matter what you should screw horizontally. There’s some mechanical advantages and less failure modes.
Probably I’m just being overly anxious, though.

Definitely the bracket if you can rig something up. If you add molding around the entry, it's gonna take way more time, and you'll be anchoring to something held on by finishing nails as opposed to screws.

Wouldnt the heat of the belt sander gum up the glue?

This is good, but to dress it up better use denatured alcohol and a tool to smooth it out.

Their bits might suck but I did manage to pick up one of their sets for cheap on a sale and for the odd time I need something that I don't otherwise have they are useful.
