I think if we had a better system for mental healthcare and socioeconomic reforms, we could help a lot of kids and adults. Sadly I don't see that happening any time soon.

You make a good point, but the question had to be asked: was there a mental/psychological issue at the core of the act? Could the kid genuinely not understand the long term impact their actions will have?

Damn, it’s almost like the crime performed by the kid had to be pretty heinous huh? Such as a crime that would FOREVER effect the victim?(such as blowing your moms brains out with a handgun, because she didn’t buy you a VR headset).
And since the punishment should fit the crime…….

Depends on age, crime, kids background and environment growing up. I’d say most times don’t belong with the adults.

A kid in adult prison will be abused A LOT.
You are writing off the kid as a lost soul who will be damaged forever.

Thanks for your example of someone who has no idea what they're talking about.

Anyone saying that kids should be placed in an adult correctional facility for any crime, even serious and violent crimes clearly has no idea what they're talking about. Both from the child psychology perspective and what really happens in prisons.

I have not watched the documentary. Sad to say but some kids commit crimes so horrible that they shouldn’t be placed in normal juvenile facilities. California used to have a prison that was designed specifically for the under 18 criminals in this category but it was converted to adults and eventually closed.

Yes, that’s what the doc seems to imply, but they gloss over it.

You're welcome. By about the 90's, the world started growing pretty concerned how much rainforest was being burnt down in Amazonas. I'm glad Brasil now has FUNAI to try and serve some of the needs of Indigenous people, though the amount of territory FUNAI oversees is understaffed, predictably, as the Amazon is huge. A tribe I was staying with in a different Amazonian region had just lost a huge number of members due to malaria a week before I arrived. All the burning of the jungle had caused mosquitos to suddenly concentrate in their territory and thrown ecology out of whack. This tribe- a ways from Maranhao where Aure and Ara hail from, consider the jaguar their ancestor-its a revered important animal central to their culture. I wondered if Jaguar was as important to their tribe, or what to interpret from him including in his story he kept telling.

And 90% of "modern" science which will eventually update and correct the "known facts" of today.

How do people on this site openly acknowledge how corrupt, and vile the police organizations are, and yet still ignorantly believe the ATF’s (another govt backed gang) propaganda when it comes to the atrocities at Waco and Ruby Ridge? In both of those scenarios federal government agencies mentally tortured, and ultimately murdered innocent US citizens, and then painted these victims as evil monsters to trick the public into believing these reprehensible agencies were the good guys.
A content creator on youtube named Wedigoon has an incredible and intricate documentary on what REALLY happened at Waco, and it’s a must see for those who still believe the victims at Waco were crazy pedo cultist’s.

“Punishment should fit the crime” is such a basic, biblical, out of date concept.
Outcome should promote society’s goals.
