There’s only one way in that’s open during the winter. You have to use the south entrance.

I've thought about visiting in the winter before and have heard it can be very difficult to get to because the roads don't get plowed regularly. Do you mind letting me know what route you took in? Thanks.

Went here this summer on our honeymoon. We did a bunch of hiking along the PNW area, and I think Crater Lake was my favorite hiking day. It just feels kind of otherworldly and serene in a very cool way, and the water is so strikingly blue and beautiful. It's also a little bit off of the beaten path compared to other parks so the people sharing trails with you are mostly interested in being respectful hikers as well. Amazing photo of an amazing place.

I did a cruise down the sound 10 years ago and it was stunning. Saw some seals too!

That waterfall is about 500 feet high if that tells you something.

I came to ask the same thing. Millions of photos taken from Sandfly Point every year but I’ve never seen this angle.

Sometimes you'll see the old man of the lake, which is an old log that has been bobbing around vertically for over a century.
I live about an hour away from Crater Lake and I've only ever seen it once.

Just read this is the only national park in Oregon which I find really surprising. It's also the deepest lake in the US.

We went at the tail end of winter. The drive in was absolutely spectacular, so many waterfalls cascading from the mountains as the snow melted, driving alongside a rushing river fed by them all. When we got to the entrance to the tunnel it was all snow, and the cheeky kea's showed off to all the cars that were queuing.
Coming into the sound we stopped our car due to a seal cub on the road. We had no idea what to do, the cub flopped into the bush. When we arrived at the sound we alerted a ranger who told us the mother seals leave the cubs alone regularly and it was OK. The ranger also told us there had been a landslide a week prior and they were expecting another one, we had about an hour or so to enjoy the sound but if we didn't leave soon we might have been locked in for a week as they were shutting the tunnel! Was a foggy day but took in some spectacular views and did a quick bushwalk. Absolutely unforgettable experience. I hope to visit again one day.
