Ha, it was the opposite for me! It was my destination, but I ended up at Frozen Lake on accident. That cirque is SO big. Really puts into perspective what you're seeing when you're looking down at it from The Keyhole.

I did Flattop and Hallett in 2007 that was one of my favorites. Frozen lake was a destination we had planned one tirp but somehow ended up at Green Lake on accident. We buy all the little trail tags, I'll have to see if I ever got up to frozen or Ida. I haven't been to the park since 2019. Hopefully I'll be able to go again soon.

They do, I got very lucky! Often, pictures I've seen of the canyon in the daytime are a bit washed out and bright when the sun is high overhead on a clear day. I got lucky that at least until about 10 or 11, beautiful clouds darted across the sky and clung to the north rim opposite me. A spectacular day.

The clouds add incredible depth to the image!

I lived in Colorado Springs for a time years ago, and made side trips to the park to play with the sheep nearly every time I had to go to Denver.

I was lucky enough to have a summer internship in the park, so I had a little over 2 months to get a lot of great hikes in. I managed to summit CCY, Longs, Ida, Flattop/Hallett along with a lot of other stuff like trying to get up to Spectacle, or hiking up to Frozen Lake. That was a magical summer.

I'm trying to remember if I did Spectacle Lakes or Crystal Lake on one of my trips out there, but my Dad is the one that has the photographic memory when it comes to RMNP. I'll have to ask him. The C-C-Y hike was a great one. We attempted Longs a few days later, but had to stop at the keyhole due to ice and snow on the route past it.

What is the scale here? It looks like it could be a tabletop sculpture that’s only an inch high

The perfect recipe for beauty: a rising sun, lazily moving clouds, and millions of years of erosion. About a week ago, I drove out along snowy and icy roads along the Grand Canyon's rim out to witness these views the morning after a modest snow storm, leaving a dusting along the canyon edges. As the morning progressed, the clouds began to clear, leaving me with spectacular lighting conditions and wonderful panoramic views.

Did C-C-Y in 2011. I also made it almost all the way up to Spectacle Lakes that same year - I've heard the view from the lakes is incredible, but there was just a bit too much snow up there yet and wasn't safe enough to try to get up the last bit.

I've been there, it was indeed mid-afternoon and the pictures I took were flat and washed out. Best I could do with the time I had.
