This eruption has been entirely confined to the summit caldera and has not affected any island residents besides the VOG that has been collecting on the Kona side.

If you’re wondering about the Mauna Loa eruption of last year, the lava flow stopped short of affecting the saddle road highway and ended. No homes, infrastructure, or privately owned properties were affected.

The lava is only in Halemaumau Crater at the summit of Kilauea in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. This eruption, almost any crater rim viewing site has clear sights of the lava lake and fountains.

Thank you for posting this pic. I used to live in that area, and now miss it terribly. That picture is like a visit back home.

We did the devastation trail walk last night around midnite, still plenty of people checking it out at that hour.
