I used to live in Alaska when I was a kid, and my mom would wake us up whenever the Northern lights appeared so we could see them. It seemed like magic as a kid - such a good memory.

No. The whales tale is about 50 minutes to an hour south of Manual Antonio

An Expat living in Costa Rica full-time for 11 years and I live only 45 minutes from Manuel Antonio. We are at the peak of the tourist season so there’s a ridiculous amount of people there. There are many other great beaches north, and south of Manuel Antonio. I would never recommend Tamarindo unless you are young and want to party. Also, Playa Hermosa? Which one? On the Pacific coast alone there are four playa hermosas.

Did you ever go to Sam's sourdough Cafe? I used to go there all the time as a kid in the early 90s, I saw it closed down recently :(
