I live in Northern California as a professional photographer. During spring we have to reduce green vibrance to keep the pictures from looking fake. My wife (also photographer) swears people would call it fake if left true to life.

Google lens says cirsium spinosissimum, the spiniest thistle. Looks right. Grows in the right environment.

Thank you...and it was surreal. BTW, the icicles at the top of the photo are maybe 6 to 8 feet / 2+ meters above the water - to give it some scale.
