We went there a long time ago and some woman crawled out onto one of the hoodoos (not sure what they're called in SD), and then froze. It was really windy too. She wanted me to come out and get her. Uh, no. I went to the ranger station and they sent the fire department up there to get her off of it. I'm scared walking upstairs at my house lady, no way I'm crawling out on a narrow, 100+ foot high jut.

I find that when light slices across landscape helping to reveal the grit and structure of a place, there are B&W images to be made. This is especially true when there is an overwhelmingly dominant color that tends to steal our ability to see the truth of a place. Deep forests, rolling oceans, snowy expanses, and desert canyons all hide their clarity of line and shape in blankets of color.

How dare you show me this absolutely beautiful fall picture as we're entering spring. How am I supposed to get jazzed up for spring? Fall is the superior season and I miss every day I'm not in it.

(I guess the southern hemisphere can enjoy without season envy)
