Isn't it? Yosemite never disappoints (though it was sad in 2017 when mirror lake completely dried out and the waterfalls became a trickle). This time around they were roaring and plus there were many, many seasonal ones.

I'm sure you will check the park website before you head out because things can always change but when we were there last weekend, the roads were clear on the way and in the valley. The park had just reopened after the big storm so some services were curtailed (on top of the usual limited service in winter) but the shuttle ran, enough food places were open - all in all, it was fantastic. Lots of trails were snowed in, but popular ones like mirror lake were doable. I hope you have a wonderful time!

I've been listening to some sleepcasts on headspace about zion and Yosemite National Park. This will help with the mental image as I'm falling asleep.

I don’t think the tram runs early enough for sunrise. IIRC 4 years ago we caught first lift and it was just after.

It's the Fagradalsfjall eruption (not sure if that's the same one you're referring too)

Zion never doesn’t look incredible. Sometimes, though, it’s even better.
