For the subreddit dedicated to futurology people here sure do seem to believe we are headed straight to the 40 Millennium of warhammer.

Considering that humanity has been progressing in every aspect quite nicely, and historically there is no reason for panicking, a lot of people here are for the lack of a better word - doomers.

For example. Our lives have gotten MUCH better than they were 100 years ago. And lives 100 years ago were much better than the 100 years ago prior to that.

So what is the reason?

Edit:

Alright then, to answer some of you.

  1. The ozon layer is probably the best reason for my optimist for our environment in the long run. All countries came together to stop the use of chemicals that were eating into it. Now the ozone layer is slowly recovering. Which is a very nice thing that proves that we can come together when things get really tough.

  2. Global wars. I have to agree with you to a large extend here. The possibility is definitely there for a WW3. I am Ukrainian and I have many family members that are not in the war now and may die at any moment and it’s horrible.

  3. resource scarcity. So far I find this to be the weakest reason of them all. So far there is no reason to believe we are running out of resources of any kind. Maybe oil, but even then we still have plenty of untapped oil in Canada. And as solar energy and wind energy increase it’s capacity we will be using less and less oil anyways. I guess my point is that we still have plenty of resources on earth. Not to mention we have the entire solar system to claim for our usage.
