About to say: this did not remotely sound like Socrates, whether in Plato, Xenophon, or Aristophanes.

If everyone wasn't constantly distracted, they might notice what's going on. Like the lack of quality/single-payer healthcare in America. Then people might decide to demand better laws, so that the Zuckers of the world aren't spying on our every move like creepy corporate weirdos, checking out our data from every angle.
But it's way easier to just go back on social media than to do the hard stuff.

Never understood the sleep like a baby part.
They don’t sleep that well. Wake up two / three times a night demanding food and nappy change.
But we use it to signify a good nights sleep?

As cheesy as it sounds....the self help books really do get you fired up and have good advice.
Try atomic habits by James clear. If it doesn't change anything, it will at least get you thinking about why you do the things that you do!

The best way to beat an addiction is to replace it with a new one. For me it was replacing alcohol with exercise. Easily the best decision I've ever made in my life I'm 10x happier 10x healthier and at least 100% more attractive. I implore anyone struggling with anything to let go of the past or what's out of your control and focus entirely on kicking ass and doing your best right here and right now.

And therein líes the difference between Coehlo and Aurelius. One gives you a solipsistic overly optimistic view and the other the cold reality of limited mortality.
