Thanks for the question. Without trying to summarize a 250 page book in a Reddit post, let me do my best with this one.

Ultimately, Ivy admissions are about personality testing far more than achievement testing. The personality test questions are found in the big essay questions and the small, seemingly unimportant short questions. By learning how personality tests work, you can essentially outsmart the personality test parts.

The number one bit of advice I can give is this: start in 9th grade or earlier. Read the application questions then so that you can design your applicant profile around them. Don't wait until 12th grade and then try to make your activities pretend to fit questions that they don't align with.

Thanks for asking!

Wow Arvin, congratulations on the #1 New Release in Kindle College Guides! As someone who didn't get into an Ivy, I'm definitely curious about what it takes. Is it a secret handshake? Do you need to sacrifice a goat to the admissions gods? In all seriousness, though, what kind of advice do you have for those of us who aspire to attend an Ivy League university?

I grew up about a mile from the trail outside of Boiling Springs PA. While I have mobility problems that would keep me from thru-hiking myself these days, when I inherit my parents house & acreage when they pass on I plan to move back home & I'd love to get involved with the AT community, participate in trail magic instead. I'd especially like to let people camp in the backyard and maybe even rent out a spare room or 2, give people rides into town, let people use the w/d, showers, etc. Can you share with us more about trail magic? How does one get started with this sort of thing? Anything else I should know?

I suppose it’s this:

“AMAs should NOT be about:
Common topics. This includes: Your day, your girlfriend, being bored or drunk, weight loss, your opinion on something, your gender identity, your religion, or your psychiatric disorders, needing sympathy or support, etc.“

I’d grant an exemption considering how uncommon your path is, but I’m not a mod. Perhaps they don’t want to open that door.

Thanks, after reviewing the rules I'm not sure what the issue is, exactly. I think the mods have an issue with the proof I provided. I saw many people show a picture of themselves holding a note, although I'm not sure why that would be better proof than showing an image of a religious text I own. It seems to me that showing I own religious Hebrew texts would be stronger proof than a picture of my face. If you have any insight into what I did incorrectly, I would be appreciative.

Totally!

I'm a huuuuuge Discord nerd. I've been building and managing community servers for 7 years. It took me a long time to get to a place where I could charge for my services, and it has been one of the greatest professional joys of my life to have been contracted by a company to redesign the server they use as their workspace.... don't tell them but I would have done it for free in a heartbeat 😄
