Yeah I mean fraudulent copyright takedowns are gonna happen regardless. YouTube sucks when it comes to protecting their creators fairly.

this is a cool idea! i like the relatively minimal design and the user-input reviews. seems like it would make it hard for racists/misogynists/etc. that would normally come out of the woodwork to give negative reviews to POC/women/etc. since they can't just sort by project (as far as i can tell).

Been doing this for a while and i love it. Quickly turns into a daily habit.
I love it a bit extra today as it gave me one of my favorite albums this morning: Horses by Patti Smith!

That's not how it works at all. It has a list of 1001 albums that have been deemed classic or influential, and gives you a new one every day you log in. The descriptions are interesting as well as they walk you through why each album was chosen.

Apparently you can copyright the work of others using this as well.

They already did this with public domain works from the Library of Congress and the result of the legal case was that because the works are public domain, Getty is free to put them behind a pay wall and even potentially DMCA people for using those public domain works (in the case that the image was sourced from Getty instead of direct from the source and then shared elsewhere).
Basically Getty can bully anyone into paying them for using a public domain work and even if you fight them in court, the only recourse would be that they drop the charge (but not covering court fees).

That can happen even to things you create yourself. The days of being a small creator are nearing an end. Even if you manage to rise above the noise and get a bit of recognition, anyone, anywhere can claim you made a sound they have copyright for. They get all the money for the video you made and it's wayyyy more difficult to prove your case than it was for them to prove theirs. Google, apparently, doesn't give a shit.

Currently, there are no backsies on the public domain. I'm sure we'll live to see eternal copyrights ex post facto as well, though.

I was talking about how even if it’s free to use, if you use it on youtube you could get your channel cancelled by copyright leeches.

Nope, it's all completely free to use, even for commercial use. Some few exceptions, like if the item itself is something related to a brand and is already under Copyright by someone else. But otherwise you can literally do anything you want with their assets.

I'm sure the Smithsonian would have stern words and lots of lawyer-speak should the Getty try to do this.

You're right, you can only review what's been generated for you, which makes it even more fun reading the reviews, especially some of the 1:s can be truly amusing.
I'm half way through this and rarely stumble upon racism/etc in the reviews but whenever i do they can be reported to the admin at /r/1001AlbumsGenerator and its dealt with.
This is a great app.
