So how is it different from plugging it to a wall socket with the charging port
It's a data capable link. That aside, it won't magically unbrick anything. You'll still sweat rocks to resurrect a device with a hosed bootloader. And it won't do a damned thing for a busted charging port.
My brain did not process any of that but will keep note
Short version: OP has an enchanted laptop with magical healing powers.
Actually, it might work depending on why the device isn't booting. It only works if the device is actually sound but has an overly depleted battery.
Nexus 6 phones were notorious for the charge getting so depleted that the high power charger was unable to get the battery going again. By plugging the phone into a low power computer USB port, often those phones could be recovered. It usually took several hours, but once the battery charging icon showed up again, switching to a regular charger would get it going again. It's also a sign that you should prepare to replace the battery.
No clue. I tried every plug and cord combo and found this tip on YouTube. Thought it was a good one to pass on. Have you tried it?
Both have identical voltage and if the power brick is bigger it supplies more current. If this works, I don't know why
I was pleasantly surprised, every power brick would not get my fitbit to respond. Laptop has worked for several devices since when nothing else would. If you have something that doesn't respond when plugged in try it! I need some independent verification ..I obviously lack credibility!!
