For both men and women the benefits of doing the exercise outweigh the effort (for the record it takes minimal effort). The sexual enhancements alone should be enough to do the exercise daily.

Also, in addition to the exercise if you add bananas to your daily diet there's one additional unexpected benefit... (come on now we are all adults here).

Pelvic floor physio is recommended by a ton of urologists for men and women, for both under AND over-developed pelvic floor muscles. If thIngs are too tight you won't be able to fully empty your urethra and need to learn to relax properly to let that last bit out

I had exactly that issue! Couldn't fully empty. I though I had prostate issues. Glad I noticed it early by myself and stoppped doing kegel excercise. After few years it went back to normal I guess. Am Millenial male BTW.

When you finish peeing into the toilet and do your pants up then leave the bathroom, do you feel a bunch of urine leak out when you start moving/when you sit down/stand up/bend over? And you can't seem to get that urine to come out normally while peeing no matter how long you wait/how much you shake/even if you do the "push up just beneath your sack when done peeing to get the last bits out" trick, and it only comes out when you don't want it to?

Depending on WHY your pelvic floor is tight matters too. If you have bad posture and those muscles are taking over the work your abdominal muscles are supposed to be doing, you're probably unable to relax them while standing (since they're holding your back upright). If you're able to consciously relax your pelvic muscles and the urine comes out at the same time, then, bingo.

Practically speaking 99% of people find out during cystoscopy once all the other potential causes are ruled out and you're asked to do a Kegel while the camera is in there staring at your sphincter

Idk if you’ve ever had a UTI before but it was the discomfort that comes with the UTI even though I didn’t have an infection. I’ve described it to people as feeling like there was something acidic inside my bladder, very deep and dull. It could be a more achy feeling of unwellness, or totally debilitating. Apparently it’s very common, particularly among women.

Like has been mentioned - pelvic floor physio. By doing their prescribed exercises you can fix the problem, but it takes a while and dedication/discipline which many don't follow through with. You have to retrain several interacting muscle groups that are out of whack from an extended period of 'taking over' movements that are supposed to be covered by different muscles.

That being said, there are other more serious problems that have the same symptoms so don't use this to "explain it away" instead of talking directly to a urologist about it. This all applies to women as well.

I am a pelvic floor physio. Please do not just start Kegels without any guidance or an assessment of your pelvic floor. The pelvic floor is a bunch of muscles, so like any other muscle it can get tight and doing more Kegels could actually be detrimental and make your symptoms worse. On top of that, often people do them wrong and just end up squeezing everything, or they might even be bearing down when they mean to squeeze and lift (due to discoordination in the pelvic floor).

There isn't a sure-fire way of knowing your pelvic floor is tight without doing an internal assessment, and I would recommend watching a video on the pressure system and the inner core unit before attempting Kegels so you have a good understanding of how the pelvic floor works (and why you'd even want to do Kegels in the first place).

This is not recommended. Urination is a reflex-based act, and practising Kegels when you are on the toilet can disrupt the normal reflexes. This could cause you to develop symptoms related to micturition (urination) such as incomplete emptying, straining and difficulty initiating urination, etc.

Edit: Of course doing this once or twice will not have a lasting impact, but lots of people hear the cue "stop the flow of urine" which isn't a great way to practice (because of the above reasons) and I just wanted to make it clear for people who have never tried it before that practising on the toilet isn't really recommended. It's best to learn how to feel your pelvic floor properly from the get-go so that the habit and connection becomes easier.

Depends how you're edging I guess. Might just be me but if I'm holding an orgasm with kegel reflexes, I'm still gonna bust when I let go, I can just hold it back for like ten seconds and let it build more.

Edging for Mr is getting to that ball tighten point and backing off for a bit and coming back from the edge, so to speak. Kegels just let's me go over the edge and not fall like a cartoon character fir a while.

Since this thread is about educating people on the pelvic floor and Kegels, I wanted to provide some additional info/context so someone doesn't just take that one comment and runs with it without looking too much further into it.

As with all things, don’t overdo it, and stop if there’s pain. And some people — especially victims of sexual abuse— should ask a pelvic floor therapist or otherwise specialist about kegels as you may cause a muscle imbalance in the area. I have had constant pelvic pain for years and doing kegels makes it much worse.

The latter is having to constantly go to the restroom. An example for me was my college roommate and I were the exact opposite in this regard. While I had to get up 3 times a night to use the restroom (more if I was eating clean and drinking a lot of water). He could sleep through the entire night and then release gallons when he went to the restroom. We used to call him The Camel because of this.

Run the water from the bathroom sink to drown out the noise from urination. Like when you workout other areas of your body (chest, biceps, quads, etc) it will take time to make progress.

I want to say it’s both, but I may have to do some “research” and get back to you! Seems like I’m getting right to the edge and then kegel stopping it, but I might just be stopping the stimulation just in time. Sometimes it’s too late, and I just bust when I release, but usually I can get a partial orgasm with no nut, and build into a big one. Lol last chick I slept with was some sort of mad scientist. She knew when I was holding one, and would employ her own kegels to completely ruin me.

So you’re saying that stopping the flow of urine might be a happen even through improper practice and not a good way of learning to dissociate the different muscles ? I’ve had trouble with that before, I once ended up with a lasting soreness and I’ve felt like I was contracting more muscles than necessary. It’s never been clear to me exactly what I was supposed to do to gain more control and enhance orgasms so I can see your point.

It's more that "stop the flow of urine" can interfere with your brain's natural connection to the pelvic floor when urinating (something that is very much automatic and reflexive rather than intentional). Definitely a lot of people often squeeze hard and end up contracting more than just the pelvic floor, like the glutes and adductors.

You can think about drawing up a pea with your urethra, or drawing your testicles up which helps direct the squeeze and lift of a Kegel. It's also important you pair Kegels with breathing - relax as you inhale and then engage your pelvic floor when you exhale. Since the pelvic floor contraction occurs automatically with exhalation, it becomes much easier to coordinate and build the proper connections.

If you do anything excessively it can lead to issues. I once pushed myself way too hard doing dumbbell presses and I tore my rotator cuff. I was in pain for weeks until it healed. However the probability of injuring yourself by doing this exercise 3 times a day (10 reps each for a total of 30 per day) is minuscule as this exercise is uniformly endorsed across the board as a health benefit.
