As someone who has been in around 8 irresponsible fires, I just want to pay my life experience forward.
-
Always clean dryer lint trap every time and the dryer vent hole before you move into a place. Never leave the dryer on even to work outside
 -
Keep electric outlets covered I stuck a metal object into a slot when I was 3 and the hallway was on fire
 -
Never use the back of the stove for storage unless you take the knobs off
 -
Never store 9 volt batteries in anything with metal. If you stick one in your pocket and it touches a penny or paper clip— you are going to the hospital
 -
Avoid charging an android phone near flammable stuff and don’t put in your pocket. My boyfriend’s phone caught fire and he needed a cadaver donation for his butt cheek. I had to change his bandage every day for a year
 -
Finish all yard work before burning the leaves in autumn and don’t let friends flick a cigarette onto your yard
 -
Unplug all heat elements after use. Irons, hair dryers, old electric blankets toasters space heaters
 -
Never start a candle business using Dixie cups to make candles
 -
Never fix car stereo without testing the electric flow — you could burn down your car and the two next to your car
 -
Never fry anything frozen. A convection oven is best for turkey

Edited to add 11. Clean your chimneys and don’t put evergreens in fireplace because the oils are flammable
-
Don’t buy sky rocket fireworks if you have a dog. They will think it is a toy and run around the yard with it. My home health client invited us to a party and their black lab did this. I ran into the house for the rest of the night https://youtu.be/RxDz7vGc6Zc
 -
Don’t keep a water bottle in your car on sunny days. The water works as a magnifying glass and your car can catch fire
 -
Never keep a crystal ball near windows or sunny spots. They magnify the sunlight. I like my tarot cards but was never interested in a ball

15 Never join multiple extension cords together especially to a space heater or another high voltage object
-
Avoid being around a flame with synthetic clothes or those puffer jackets
 -
Don’t get back into your car while fueling your car because static electricity can start a fire. I removed mine and got rubber mats. Leave the nozzle in as well if a fire starts because it can die out. Pulling it out brings more oxygen to the fire
 -
If you smoke, don’t flick a cigarette out the window. I was driving in my friends convertible and a cigarette landed in the backseat. Since it was dark, I saw the fire and pulled over immediately
 -
Don’t use gas to start camp fire. This is mainly a male teenager bad habit
