Some people are weird, but would rather seem like they have no personality than admit to being weird

Tell me you’re British without telling me to it British.
My mum always called them bobbles, and I did as a young kid in Australia until my peers began teasing me for it.
Hair ties. Always hair ties, but ‘bobble’ still fills me with fond memories of my mum & British family.

Unless you're trying to learn something from the book, it's fine not to finish it.
A book that's a good match for you will be hard to put down, not hard to finish.

Assuming you don't have ADHD or something, and assuming you used to be able to, what other people are suggesting. But it takes practice, and it won't happen overnight.
I used to read a lot in school, then with college and work, I stopped having the time and energy and would only read short articles and newsblog sort of things. When I finally achieved some semblance of a work/life balance, I found it agonizing to try and read again.
You could also try starting with comics, manga, or graphic novels too. I felt part of my problem was "training" my brain to being able to read again. Also the usual be well rested, and not stressed nonsense too. Having a nice place to read and not having toworry about distractions too.

Both of my parents had Alzheimer's and would sometimes call to say nice things and sometimes call to say mean things (like when I had to take the car keys from dad). But I saved all of those messages.
I'm intrigued by the idea Alexa was able to show responding in a loved one's voice..a bit creepy since it's nothing we've experienced before as a human race, but I also wonder if it would be calming at the same time?

Ok, not sure if this will work or not given you said there is too much info for flash cards but I used to write the salient points in colourful and LARGE letters in my notebook. They really sunk in deeper.

you could literally use a different phone or laptop to record the sound and save it that way. I once lost a super important voicemail and I wished to God I had just recorded it onto my laptop at the time. Gone. Spent an hour on the phone with [cell carrier] for them to tell me it was gone forever. Days of crying. Days.

Are you sticking to one genre? Could you be a little burnt out on it? Maybe a change will help?

Try getting out of the house. That helps me, I always read better when traveling or on vacation.

Okie dokie.
Notice I never once said don’t be yourself.
Also loving friends know you well, right? Not quite what we were talking about.
Get real.

Noise canceling headphones, ear plugs, focus on your breathing, remind yourself to slow down, reread sections if you spaced out, audiobooks.
