Reply to LPT Request: How to read a book without getting distracted and wandering off? by masterddit
Learn to read faster. I used to lose focus, and realized my reading speed wasn’t keeping up with my processing speed. The slow pace made me bored and frustrated.
To read faster: I’m no expert, but what works for me is basically scanning chunks of words with my eyes, and moving quickly across the lines — while trusting that my brain is processing what it’s seeing. I actually retain more of the information this way, surprisingly. Experts can chime in with more detail, but this has worked for me.

I would outline the chapters. I’ve always found I retain it better that way.

I have a TERRIBLE memory so if I’m cramming for a cumulative exam.. I’ve learned that making flashcards right before an exam isn’t very helpful.. so the best way is to rewatch any recorded lectures in 2X speed (if made available) and don’t take notes, instead, MAKE MNEMONICS!

This is something I desperately wish I had done before my mom passed 7 years ago.

So you have an exam tomorrow and are asking how to memorize 5 months' worth of material? Have I got that right? Answer: You can't.

yep same. I also recommend the lights/wiper things from behind the steering wheel if the gear shifter area is already a bit of a mess like it is in my car. or if you like to have a spotless car behind the steering wheel is more hidden.

Airhug, I’m sorry man. Grief looks different for everyone, and that’s okay.

I found an old voice message that I wasn't aware of from my mother a few months after she died and I was just so happy to hear her voice once again. I can not describe how much that meant to me.

I'd suggest shot more pics and video with them while you can. They are far better than voicemails. Don't think that taking pictures or videos are stupid or whatnot, they are great tools to remind you of the experience you had.

I'll agree to this. My wife of 15 years didn't recover from anesthesia from an outpatient procedure. I went into my voice mail soon after she passed and the only message I had still from her was a 3 second hangup from her trying to call at some point in time. I have nothing personal to me with her voice. It was a sucky realization.

I also had to re-train my brain. I set a timer for a certain amount of time (start small, maybe with five minutes) and wouldn't let myself do anything else until the timer went off. Then increase the time. This isn't necessarily "fun," but it can retrain your brain so that reading is enjoyable and engrossing again.
