Always gotta be careful but if you are that often let you do crazy stuff. I bought a for parts Seagate hard drive on eBay and RMAed it. Seagate even sent me a new drive before I sent my old in because I told them it was a production environment that can't take much downtime.

Is this automatic? Is it a setting? Please share.

Reply to LPT: After a good haircut, take a photo of your hair to show to the barber next time you go, it makes life much easier for them and for you. This especially helps if you're going to a new barber for the first time. by bongingnaut
Instead of taking a selfie, I ask the barber/stylist to take the photos with my own phone. I figure they'll do a better job getting the right angles than I will.
Of course, this won't prevent a bad stylist from messing up your hair. But it can help a good one know what you want.

The tip along this theme that I think has value is to consider how important something is by how long it's effects will be felt: 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year or 1 decade.
They are all very different - but some important stuff will still have an impact in the 1 year or less categories.

I think it's much better to just not use it and then check it once a month or so.

SO I have done this. I had photos of the front, back, sides, pulled back to show the different layers and angles etc like 15 photos. Printed them out (before ipads and the like were a viable option) handed them over and said "make me now, look like me then" and they messed it up so bad, that I told her to just pixie cut it and I'll start all over.
I'm sure there are stylists who would have done a great job, but the salon I went to...terrible I never went back there .

5 years is a long time and you shouldn't just dismiss stuff that will affect you for that long.

I have lost all care in my physical appearance, my hair hangs like a dirty, flaccid entanglement of shoelaces

Nah. Often broken bones will be stronger than they were before, if they are broken in a manner capable of healing properly, which is usually. Each of those things I mentioned has happened to a different family member of mine and they were fine in less than a year

I always told my kids go ahead and buy it but wait three days or week and then decide if you really wanted the item or we would rather have the money for something else. Often wanting something is the exciting part. Once you get home, you may decide you really don’t need it.
