I was at a work trip in the UK and for some reason the Uber driver told me that they know when the flights come in and they all turn off their app to make the rates go higher.

I was very annoyed at that. Even though my trip was 100% covered by my company, what about the times I'm just traveling on my own?

I didn't tip the guy. Fuck that shit.

In college a professor told us a story about visiting colleagues in the UK.

One of them mentioned to him that Americans like to go straight to that question and for him to hold off on asking people what they do for a living.

He said once it was far into the evening the colleague asked him what he thought of everybody and he said everyone was nice and it was a treasure to meet everyone.

Afterwards he went on to tell him what everyone did for a living and he was surprised about everyone's profession because he would have never guessed based on the conversations he had with them.

He said it was refreshing not knowing one's profession as you end up judging a person based on that information.

This professor was old, so I'm sure 20 years ago in college for me, it was 20 - 30+ years ago for him.

I’m currently adding dual white led strips to all my rooms. They’re controlled by Home Assistant on my home server. There’s a script that runs that is constantly assigning color temperature and brightness based on the sun. So when I turn on my lights in the middle of the day, they’re full bright daylight. At night they slowly ramp down brightness and warm up as the sun sets. When I turn on my tv the strips that cause reflections turn off and the other strips dim. I can still control them with a switch or my voice, but ideally they just do what I want automatically. It’s great so far

I recommend going online and getting a mattress with a free trial period.

I went through 4 mattresses until I found the one that worked for me.

The only downside is that it costs like $90 for them to ship out another one and they pick up the current one.

However it's worth it instead of buying a bed you can't take back and continuing with the same issue.

Been there, done that.

Our puppy died when he was just twelve months old. My kids were 5 and 9. We told them he “had died”.

The five year old was sad and cried. She told everyone the “Buster died”. A few months later she asked “When is Buster coming back?”

So I think I would add “Buster died and we won’t see him again” or something similar so they understood it is finite. Otherwise they’re just in a sadness holding pattern

So, I have tried something for the past year or so and after 8:30 pm or so I try to have whatever room I am in as dim as possible. That means keeping any mobile devices on night setting, sitting as far away from a bright light source as possible and using a salt lamp nightlight in the bedroom instead of a reading lamp by the bed. As a result, I find myself falling asleep much faster and sleeping deeper than I would otherwise. In effect, simulating a long period of twilight instead of abruptly going from a brightly lit living room into a dark bedroom to sleep. It’s really helped me overall, I have to say.
