I live in downtown closer to Market St and have noticed that Jackson Street and Middlesex St east of South St is generally fine. The rowdy-ness around the Transitional Living Center is far enough away from the Jackson/Appleton lofts that I wouldn't say it's a significant factor to the safety of the area. Not saying the area is perfect, rather it's about as safe as anywhere in downtown. I experience way more unhinged folks on Merrimack St than around Jackson St.

I will occasionally do a full work day at Coffee and Cotton in Mill 5. There are always places to sit and it's a very chill and comfortable atmosphere with drinks and snacks. During the day Mill 5 is largely empty so I've taken calls by finding an empty corner somewhere on the 4th or 5th floor. They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays though.

The Panera in drum hill Chelmsford is great for that.

If they are shorter calls, I have parked myself in the book stacks 😂 but I wish the Pollard had more rooms to duck into for calls

Thank you! And they have a 4-hour limit on study rooms which is great.

Since you have a car I’d add that Tewksbury’s library is right down Rt 38. I don’t use it for work but it is always really quiet on the second floor. I am not sure if they have rooms for calls or not.

Great suggestion. Easier parking than Lowell's library as well.

Chelmsford Library lets you reserve some study rooms for up to 2 hours. Can't book it back to back but they are also generally quiet and the librarians can find you a corner they won't mind you taking business calls from. IIRC they also don't mind you sitting in the room if it's not booked as long as you're mindful of someone else who might be standing outside waiting for it.

Excellent suggestion! Any idea if they have rooms for making calls? That's my only concern since I hop into video calls a couple times a day.
Edit: Yes they do, but have a 2 hour per day limit. https://lowelllibrary.org/services/rooms/

Hope they get up and running again soon, one of the best - if not the best - vibes of any bar around here.
