Portland has some great restaurants and has long established itself as a culinary juggernaut. However, a lot of my favorites are pricey and I’m looking to stretch my dollars a bit further in some other areas of the state. In most US cities, you can walk around and find some decent places for cheap but it feels like you have to dig a bit deeper in Maine. So, what do you like to eat that’s relatively cheap but can be just as rewarding as an overpriced lobster roll?

I’ll start: Anthony’s in York. I love their eggplant parm sub and even as an adult I’ve never managed to finish one of those hearty subs in one sitting!

Edit: I’m looking for cheap(ish) tasty food. I don’t care if that comes from a gas station on Rte. 1 or a fisherman on a pier. I’m here to support my local eateries and hopefully find some new favorites along the way.
