Walmart parking lots typically aren't a bad idea

Not much of an atmosphere, but you won’t have trouble at a wal-mart parking lot. Plus you can grab supplies/bathroom access.

Try not to park in the same place too many nights in a row. It's best to rotate. Pull in as late as you can, and leave as early as you can in the morning.

Walmart, cracker barrel, and home depot generally allow overnight parking. Call the specific stores to ask permission if you don't see anyone else parked there. Usually you'll notice a bunch of vans and RVs parked at the back of the lots.

Other ideas - truck stops, rest stops, neighborhoods with a lot of street parking, streets near apartments, or apartment parking lots that are plenty large/ near businesses, and any business that's open 24/7.

Look up boondocking in Maine. Lots of free places to park and camp, just have to move every 2 weeks.

Park and rides, Walmart, shopping malls that have a 24/Hr gym attached.

Hotel parking lots. Get a free Bonvoy account, park in a Marriott family hotel’s lot and you can siphon wifi.

I just watched a video on YouTube offering these suggestions: campgrounds, rest areas, Walmart, Costco, hotel parking lots, hospital parking lots. Best of luck, hope things get better soon.

Definitely Walmart. I frequently help out a couple who live in their van and one of them works at the same Walmart she parks at.

Hmm don’t wanna repeat any other suggestions here so maybe a 24 hour McDonald’s? If you have one nearby that is. I dont see why they would care and they usually have parking spots off to the sides away from the building. And if you get hungry, you can get your grub on.

Call churches to ask if it’s ok to park in their lot. They may help you with more than that.

Done it myself a few nights, usually just find a Walmart and park near some light, no fun but definitely doable, stay safe friend, well wishes

I agree about Walmarts in general, but the one in Scarborough has signs specifically forbidding overnight parking.

Check iOverlander app. It lists and rates places, and has pictures

There are some warming shelters in churches or around buildings like that, that have free parking lots for overnight parking only a 5-7 minute walk from the areas. I know Augusta has a few and other big cities.

in Maine? probably 90% of the state. I've car camped a few times rest stops/gas stations have bright lights but you won't be bothered.

I have actually been doing this for six months. 24 hour gym parking lots are a good one, Walmart parking lots also just along the side of residential streets. I personally stay at a 24 hour YMCA parking lot so I can take a shower/use the restroom whenever I need to.

In Arizona they sleep in car during the daytime in store parking lots. No problems all day long. Especially if you blend. Heat is a tiny issue.

They stay up all night doing who knows what.... With who knows who... For how long,...
