The maps pretty clearly lay out who owns it. I’m starting to suspect I’m speaking to a butthurt absentee landlord on the run from the IRS

According to CMP and Versant they needed to raise rates to pay for infrastructure maintenance and improvements. However, they also spent tens of millions of dollars on advertising against publicly owned power and the CMP corridor.

Wait, you want the people who are whining online about how all their problems are someone else's fault to demonstrate personal responsibility? Do you know what country you live in?
Seems like it would be easier, and more effective, just to take their internet away.

Out west a huge percentage of wilderness / undeveloped land is federally owned. Over 60% of Utah is federal public land, over 80% of Nevada, 45% of California, 52% of Oregon, etc

They’re talking about federal land (like BLM, National Forests, National Recreation Areas, etc). Out west hunting, ATVing, snowmobiling, etc is generally done on federal land. BLM generally allows more permissive use (like jeep trails and boondocking)

Where I used to live in Maryland we had a customer owned electric company. As far as I know they still exist. I've been on Maine since 2010 and CMP sucks

Don’t know what heat pumps you got, but ours are more efficient than the oil baseboard system until about -10 (theoretically, we haven’t had much under -5 in the last few years). The efficiency also only really drops at -5. Daikin is our brand, they’re awesome and the reduced AC costs in the summer are massive as well.
I remember a time where our house didn’t have AC in the summer as kids because we didn’t need it!

How else would it be held? Honest question. I mean we have parks. Public land. It's hard fought land though. Tje majority of land will be private owned.

Agreed I do it for a flat section of my roof and it's kind of satisfying to watch all that snow tumble off.

The evidence is the higher prices lol. Default rates are usually bid out for a year at a time: https://www.maine.gov/mpuc/regulated-utilities/electricity/standard-offer-rates/cmp
My description of the market is glossing over quite a bit of nuance that I don't really care to actually get into. Source: I've worked as an energy consultant in New England for over a decade.

If you can’t think of anything different about Maine power compared to other New England states, keep your sweeping generalizations to yourself.

Ice dams happen with leaky roofs right? I used to roof rake until i had my attic insulated. I don't need to now except on tha back I have a flat section off the back of my house. I've been raking that. It's not the snow I'm worried about but its like you said. Snow and then rain.
I kind of think of roof raking to be important for low pitches or uninsulated attics. If you a have buttoned up attic and a normal pitched roof then I don't think you need to do anything.
If you have icicles, you should roof rake

So the microcosm of new England, Maine specifically, is paying higher prices for natural gas, despite the price going down everywhere else, even Europe. I'm not seeing any evidence for that no matter where I look. What are your sources or is this assumption? Nevertheless, my original question was are prices locked in even if natural gas dropped even more in terminals or pipelines?

I will never understand the anomaly that is CMP bill pay. I have bills on my account from years ago in all different apartments I’ve lived in, and no matter how much I pay they don’t ever go away. You could try calling but can’t guarantee anyone there will be of much help… my best advice is turn off autopay and make manual payments of whatever your paper bill says each month.
