my bank has this option too. if viewed from a purely financial transaction perspective, this kinda makes sense. what happens if you have to dispute a charge or stop payment? is their anyway a provider can force a payment?

Eastern Cemetery and Evergreen Cemetery are well worth the visit. They both offered guided tours in the warmer months, and feature interesting gravestones and burials. The Portland Observatory is close to Eastern Cemetery as well. On Peaks Island, the 5th Maine Museum and Battery Steele are nice visits. I haven't been in a while, but read an interesting article about Fort Western in Augusta. Fort Knox is a cool visit, and if you're in the area the Buck Monument is more a curious roadside attraction. Joshua Chamberlain's house in Brunswick is a nice shrine museum to him and his accomplishments. I'm happy to provide any other recommendations if there are periods of time or specific areas of interest you're particularly intrigued by.

It's kind of an inherent problem with being wealthy. Most people don't make enough money to make "tax optimization" a worthwhile endeavor, but at a certain point the money saved by minimizing tax liability far outweighs the money spent getting there. From the perspective of the wealthy, they are compliant tax paying entities, and any perceived inequity is the problem of the lawmaker.

Looks like he owned close to 500 acres there, not sure if it was all sold with that house. My guess would be that people were able to buy the land relatively cheaply and the spend their money on the build.

I live here in Orland and have for many years. Million dollar real estate properties are popping up here all over the place nowadays Used to be a not so popular town. I’m puzzled as to why all of the sudden interest here.

Good retort there. If someone makes money it isn’t a crime and it isn’t wrong, it’s how they act as a person. I don’t fault anyone being rich, they either earned it, got lucky, or were given it. All of which you or I could also do in one fashion or another.

Being jealous of those individuals is understandable, they have so much money, why don’t they give to things I want, etc.

It’s “what-about-ism” at its finest.

My bank has an e-bill service that I use. My bank tells me when there's a new bill, I look, and pay it directly out of my checking account. That way I can view the whole payment history through my banks site and not CMP.

It's not ideal for detailed usage tracking, but it's been way less hassle than dealing with shitty CMP autopay or their awful payment website.

Off. I've had auto pay for years and years. Even through the billing system transition in 2017, it has worked fine.

The only glitch was when I first enrolled. I was told it would take a billing cycle for it to kick in so I made a manual payment, then the auto pay took effect. Soba double payment. They wanted me to just let it sit for a month but I demanded a credit and got one.

Their payment site seems like it was designed for the mid-twentieth century, and I wouldn’t trust CMP with an automatic payment that varies in cost each month. I pay manually each month to avoid this trouble.

As a general rule i only tie a credit card to autopayments. i then make one manual payment to my cc company for all my bills. i will never give a service provider access to my checking account. CMP is the odd man out where i have to manually pay each month with my cc.

Here's an article I spent 5 seconds searching for on Google: https://www.naturalgasintel.com/haynesville-output-to-top-16-bcf-d-as-total-lower-48-production-continues-to-climb/

They talk about exactly the same phenomenon I am and even had a nice graph. I'm actually surprised you 'haven't been able to find any evidence' since it's all over search 'new england natural gas basis'.

Full transparency, as far as shipyards go BIW is quaint. When you have one customer and one customer only, who pays handsomely, you don’t need a ton of room to attempt to crank out two ~600ft hulls a year vs what you need to build super freighters

I’ve been in a variety of heavy industries since 2015 including BIW, and as far as sheer acreage of an operation they’re peons. I worked a power plant in Texas whose coal pile alone was probably 80% of the size of the Bath yard

The price was high last year, the natural gas prices have fallen just this month or two. Considering they locked in those prices at the height of the natural gas price last year, it kind of sucks that those prices have been locked in, when natural gas will most likely fall even further. This will mean huge profits for energy providers using natural gas based energy to Maine. Bummer the negotiations didn't have a adjustment clause built in. Seems like an oversight.

Sources would be good, any energy consultant can still be a "trust me bro". Either way it's a moot point since the prices are locked in from natural gases high last year.
